Fans of CCP Games’ long-running MMORPG EVE Online have flocked to Iceland this week for its annual Fan Fest event. As part of the developer keynote, which The Nerd Stash was in attendance for, a bunch of exciting announcements revealed new content coming to the game. That includes EVE Online: Havoc, the latest major expansion set to bring space pirate chaos to the frontlines of New Eden when it launches on November 14, 2023.
EVE Havoc Expansion Let’s Players Live Out Space Pirate Fantasy
Havoc kicks off for players as an ominous invitation from the enigmatic pirate figurehead known as the Deathless, who beckons them to uncover a mysterious new star system: Zarzakh. There, pirate factions have already established a foothold.
As is always the case in EVE, players face a choice in deciding where their allegiances lie. By enlisting with pirate factions and corrupting star systems in insurgency zones, players will be rewarded and unlock access to special faction-aligned storefronts.
Alternatively, those who seek to protect the empires will be able to engage in anti-pirate activity, stemming the flow of corruption and suppressing pirate efforts.
Corporation Projects Get a Rework in Havoc
As part of Havoc, Corporation Projects are being substantially reworked and improved. Corporation Leaders will have new ways to manage, contribute, and reward members for their efforts via new functionality, a new Corporation Project Manager role, and new project types covering a wider range of activities.
EVE Havoc Finally Unleashes the Angel Titan
The expansion brings with it five new ships, including two factional Destroyers and two Battlecruisers, but the Angel Titan is by far and away the most anticipated. First teased as concept art many years ago during an Australian EVE fan convention, the Angel Titan has become something of an enigma ever since. It’s now finally been confirmed, and it looks every bit as hype-worthy as fans could have hoped for — the crowd went wild for its reveal during today’s keynote.
New Choices & Struggles For are at Havoc’s Core
“Player impact is key to the third decade of EVE Online. We want players to see and feel the weight of their contributions in New Eden and have their voices heard,” Bergur Finnbogason, EVE Online’s Creative Director, explains.
“With EVE Online: Havoc we are offering them new choices and new struggles that question their very identity in New Eden. Will they spread corruption, or uphold tradition? Will they seek personal gain, or commit to their version of ‘the greater good’? And of course, we will be watching to see who is the first to build the magnificent Angel Titan!”
EVE Online players can also look forward to some performance optimizations with Havoc, too. CCP Games’ newly announced Carbon Engine promises a number of robust technical and graphical improvements coming to EVE Online in the near future.
EVE Online is available on PC exclusively, though a new 4X strategy spin-off called Galaxy Conquest launches on mobile later this year. There’s also the VR game Gunjack.
