Ahsoka, the latest Star Wars series to come to Disney Plus, has managed to deliver an engaging story so far, mainly due to the thoroughly intriguing villains. From here on out the article will have minor spoilers for the latest episode of Ahsoka. The sixth episode of the show, Part Six: Far, Far Away diverts from Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson) for the most part, as she is still traveling by the way of a purrgil. Instead, we saw the villains land on Peridea with Sabine Wren (Natasha Liu Bordizzo), where they found Thrawn. Let’s take a look at who plays Grand Admiral Thrawn in Ahsoka.
Who Is Lars Mikkelsen, the Actor Who Plays Grand Admiral Thrawn in Ahsoka?
Grand Admiral Thrawn is a Star Wars character that was introduced in the Heir to the Empire novel, which was released in 1991 and was written by Timothy Zahn. He then appeared in Star Wars Rebels while Timothy Zahn wrote a new batch of books surrounding the character, cementing Thrawn into the current canon. Grand Admiral Thrawn’s appearance in Ahsoka directly follows his disappearance with Ezra Bridger in Rebels, where he is played by the same actor who voiced him in the animated series, Lars Mikkelsen. So, if you’ve seen Rebels, that’s why his voice might have sounded familiar.
Other than seeing Mikkelsen in Ahsoka, you might recognize him from his roles in BBC’s Sherlock as Charles Augustus Magnussen, House of Cards as Viktor Petrov, or The Witcher as Stregobor. He is also the older brother of another actor who has also appeared in a Star Wars project, Mads Mikkelsen, who played Galen Erso in Rogue On: A Star Wars Story. Mads Mikkelsen also appeared as the main villain in Doctor Strange and as Hannibal Lecter in the series, Hannibal. As the pair are from Denmark they have been in far more Danish productions with Lars starring in Headhunter and The Day Will Come.
Lars Mikkelsen was the fan choice for a live-action adaptation of Grand Admiral Thrawn after the impressive menacing performance he brought to Rebels. As he has now fully appeared in an episode of Ahsoka, it seems quite safe to say that he has succeeded in bringing those same vibes to his live-action performance. With two episodes remaining, we’ll probably be getting plenty of Thrawn, especially with Ahsoka presumably on her way to him.
That wraps up everything you need to know about who plays Grand Admiral Thrawn in Ahsoka. You can catch up on Thrawn’s exploits by watching Ahsoka on Disney Plus, with new episodes airing on Tuesdays.Â
