In a bold new step for PlayStation, users can now review games for the PS4 and PS5. Seemingly taking inspiration from Steam‘s popular review system, the PlayStation store pushed out a new update that lets players leave reviews on certain games. While the system isn’t as polished or advanced as competitors, it’s still a nice step towards adding a community-based approach to PlayStation games in a way that they’ve lacked for a while now.
Has PlayStation Copied Steam Reviews? Yes and No
One of the most unique things about Steam as a platform is the review system that lets PC users leave detailed and descriptive comments on the games they’ve played. The reviews all contribute to a game’s user score, which is sometimes the first thing a new player will see when browsing the Steam listing.
Borrowing inspiration from Steam, PlayStation has now added its own review system to the PlayStation store. However, it’s admittedly not as sophisticated — yet. At the moment, users can only review digital versions of games, not hard copies, so if you’ve got a massive collection of game discs lining your shelves, then you’re unfortunately out of luck. Additionally, there’s no way to leave written reviews like on Steam since all PlayStation has is the ability to rank a game on a five-star system.
Players leave a PlayStation store review by accessing the store from any PS4 or PS5 console. After finding the digital game they want to leave a review on, selecting “View Product” will enable them to use the five-star system on the game’s listing page.
There’s no word from PlayStation on whether they intend to improve their review system to match Steam’s or if they will monitor the reviews to prevent spam or review-bombing. Whatever the case, it’s nice to know that PS players can now publicly share their opinions on games they’ve played conveniently via their platform.
