If you’re looking to collect Tourbillon Devices or Prithiva Topaz for your Geo characters while exploring Fontaine in Genshin Impact, consider paying the Experimental Field Generator a visit. While much of the Hydro region’s areas of interest lie beneath the waves, this Automaton is relatively easy to find within a ruin northeast of the Court of Fontaine. Furthermore, this Clockwork Meka is a Normal Boss tied to two Challenger: Series VIII Achievements. We’ll cover the strategies involved in unlocking these Achievements, as well as offer some basic advice to defeat Genshin‘s Experimental Field Generator.
The Experimental Field Generator Location in Fontaine
On the same land mass as the Marcotte Station, you’ll come across the Academic Assembly Hall on the main road to the far north. It sits opposite the New Fontaine Research Institute and west of the Mary-Ann Memorial Park’s Statue of the Seven. The Experimental Field Generator in Genshin Impact sits within a circular arena slightly off the main path and is very noticeable from the map screen. Entering the boss arena is as simple as following the road to the hall’s main entrance to the east.
How To Beat The Prototype Cal. Breguet in Genshin Impact
Also referred to in-game as “Prototype Cal. Breguet,” the Experimental Field Generator deals Geo and Physical Damage and isn’t weak to any particular element. That makes things easy for us, as it means we can use any element team we’d prefer, as long as the main source of damage isn’t Geo. That said, we went with our 5-Star Hydro Bloom squad: Nahida, Nilou, Yelan, and Kokomi.
For the first phase of the fight, Genshin‘s Experimental Field Generator will perform its three basic attacks. These include a Geo-laser sweep, a fly-by bombing, and a barrage of non-homing projectiles. Once the Normal Boss whips out its Gravity Reduction Field, things get interesting.
When the Prototype Cal. Breguet’s Gravity Reduction Field is active, a notification will appear on-screen, saying that the gravity has decreased, boosting the height of your jumps. Xiao enthusiasts will understand what to do here — it’s ground-pounding time! However, do note that the Clockwork Meka will receive a temporary damage resistance buff, as well as perform near-ground attacks called Gravity Ripples that you can avoid by jumping with low gravity.
As the battle progresses, the Experimental Field Generator in Genshin Impact will eventually whip out its stronger attacks that can pack a punch. The first is a barrage of projectiles, while the second deals Geo damage in small AoE circles around the arena. The third and final is a massive AoE that you can avoid by stepping outside of its range. That said, take a few steps back when you see a large dark circle expand on the floor.
How To Unlock the Experimental Field Generator Achievements
The first Achievement connected to this Normal Boss of Fontaine is “The Distance of the Moon,” which requires you to perform 11 Plunging Attacks in a single Gravity Reduction Field. In other words, when that notification we mentioned earlier pops up, it’s time to get to pounding with Plunging Attacks! Of course, remember your downward strikes are hitting the boss.
The second challenge, “Gravity Front,” is directly related to the Gravity Ripples that the Experimental Field Generator uses during its second phase. You need to defeat the boss without being struck by a single Gravity Ripple. Remember that the Achievement won’t unlock even if you lose no HP with a shield like Zhongli’s Geo protection.
Let’s go over a quick summary of how to find and beat the Experimental Field Generator in Genshin Impact and unlock its two Achievements:
- Visit the Academic Assembly Hall south of the New Fontaine Research Institute.
- When the Clockwork Meka’s Gravity Reduction Field is active, do 11 Plunging Attacks in quick succession.
- Remember to always jump to avoid being struck by its Gravity Ripples.Â
- Use anything but Geo to easily defeat this Normal Boss and receive its drops, the notable rewards being Prithiva Topaz and Tourbillon Devices in Genshin Impact.
