With the complete refresh of the open-world role-playing game via Update 2.0, you’ll likely wish to start fresh with a brand-new character. And the first major choice is one of the three lifepaths. A lifepath is the background of your character, and it will alter their start, prologue, some of the characters you will interact with, and some minor dialogue options throughout the game. Here’s our take on what the best lifepath for your character in Cyberpunk 2077 2.0.

What is a Lifepath in Cyberpunk 2077?

Lifepaths can alter dialogue and certain moments in the campaign. For example, when speaking with other Corp lackeys, you’ll have a dialogue option to relate to them or show you know about their world. It’s minor.

In total, there are three lifepaths to choose from in Cyberpunk 2077:

  • Nomad
  • Streetkid
  • Corpo

Overall, the lifepath is nothing more than flavor. It doesn’t change enough to warrant worrying over significantly, so don’t fret too much when choosing the best lifepath in Cyberpunk 2077. It’s completely up to you and your role-playing desires.

Nomad Lifepath

The Nomad lifepath places V firmly into the outcast caste. These individuals spend their days roaming the Badlands of North America, with some settling down in the deserts outside of Night City. We’ll meet Panam, a fellow Nomad, relatively early in the campaign, and her clan living just outside the city’s limits.

As a Nomad, V understands the concept of doing whatever it takes to survive. You see, a Nomad will routinely take part in smuggling using high-speed vehicles and other illegal activities without fear of repercussion. They live their own lives.

Furthermore, Nomad is the only lifepath in Cyberpunk 2077 that does not begin inside Night City proper. Instead, you’ll start in the Badlands.

Streetkid Lifepath

The Streetkid was born and raised in Heywood, a violent, poor district of Night City that also birthed folks like Jackie Welles. The Streetkid lifepath in Cyberpunk 2077 is the born mercenary from the streets, a rough-and-tumble individual who bumps shoulders with the underworld’s elite.

As a Streetkid, V will have access to more down-to-earth dialogue options, showing her rise from nothing but the gutters to something more akin to a legendary merc.

Furthermore, Streetkid starts out in Heywood itself, so expect a warm welcome.

Corpo Lifepath

Lastly, we have the Corpo lifepath in Cyberpunk 2077, the money-maker who delved headfirst into the corporate lifestyle and didn’t surface for a long time. This background revolves around corporations like Arasaka, who own most of Night City, along with business, sabotage, and stepping on the little guy.

Of the many backgrounds in the game, this is the “evil” path. Of course, it’s your choice whether or not to follow that style via dialogue choices.

Furthermore, picking the Corpo lifepath will start you in the business district of Night City.

So, which is the best lifepath in Cyberpunk 2077? As they all offer random flavor to the role-playing aspect of the game, it’s completely up to you! Which lifepath suits your desired playstyle and character build?

When it comes to the best one, however, most folks tend to opt for Streetkid. It thrusts us into the setting of Night City, the nitty-gritty underworld, immediately and offers a few choice dialogue options that fit the overall theme of the game.

Alternatively, if you want to opt for a “bad guy” playthrough, then Corpo proves most ideal for such a situation. It’s also the ideal path for a netrunner or stealth-type build.

Lastly, Nomad is more action-oriented. It offers a firsthand look at the Badlands, which most won’t visit until partway through the campaign, and it thrusts the player into combat much earlier.

But seeing as you can pick only one, we have to recommend Streetkid as the best lifepath. It fits the narrative far better than any other option, and it’s the most well-rounded option for new and returning players to Cyberpunk 2077 2.0!

Cyberpunk 2077 2.0 is available now on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox.
