Has been teased for the last few weeks, Counter-Strike 2 is not an early April Fool’s joke. The game is going to be a real release from Valve and will be having a Limited Test period soon. And with it, Valve has answered questions from the player base, including whether or not your inventory will carry over from Counter-Strike: Global Offensive 1 to Counter-Strike 2 update. Find out the answer below. Spoiler alert: you don’t have to worry about it.
Counter-Strike: Global Offensive to Counter-Strike 2, Will Your Inventory Carry Over?
If you’re a Counter-Strike: Global Offensive 1 player that has racked tons of skins and is extremely worried about the engine overhaul and name change, thankfully, Valve has assured millions of players all over the world that: yes, all of your inventory items will carry over to Counter-Strike 2. It’s not surprising since, similar to Overwatch 2, this is basically an “expansion pack-like” update to the original game instead of a brand-new release. Below is the direct quote from Counter-Strike 2 Limited Test FAQ page:
“Yes. All of your weapon finishes, stickers, and other CS:GO inventory items will be available to use in Counter-Strike 2. Please report any inventory item and weapon finish bugs you encounter using the previously mentioned bug report process.”
In case you’re still not sure about what will happen in the full game, the official Counter-Strike 2 website also stated that your guns, knives, and player skins will all “benefit” from Source 2 engine’s changes; from higher quality textures, high-resolution models, and lighting, to weapon finishes.
“Bring your entire CS:GO inventory with you to Counter-Strike 2. Not only will you keep every item you’ve collected over the years, but they’ll all benefit from Source 2 [engine] lighting and materials. In addition to supporting legacy models and finishes, all stock weapons have been upgraded with high-resolution models, and some weapon finishes take advantage of these new models.”
Unlike Overwatch 2 which only adds new maps and characters though, it seems Valve is also planning various huge changes to the game’s user experience, mechanics, and server’s backend with Counter-Strike 2 including a new “sub-tick” architecture that should ensure all players on a match are playing on practically the same milliseconds.
Although Valve has said that you cannot modify items during the Limited Test period, any XP gain will be carried over to your Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. With that in mind, if you can try out the Limited Test then you should get to it as soon as possible!
