The Guardians of the Galaxy are back, and they are certainly not better than ever. The latest installment of the MCU trilogy lives up to the hype of its predecessors but takes a much darker route than the first two films. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 serves as a satisfying conclusion that’ll probably have its viewers shedding a tear or two. The entire cast pulled off a phenomenal performance as Pom Klementieff and Dave Bautista stole the spotlight by simply being downright hilarious. The visual and special effects continue to exceed all expectations compared to other MCU films, while the soundtrack is entertaining and enjoyable as always.
In the official synopsis for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, our beloved band of misfits is looking a bit different these days. Peter Quill, still reeling from the loss of Gamora, must rally his team around him to defend the universe along with protecting one of their own. A mission that, if not completed successfully, could quite possibly lead to the end of the Guardians as we know them. James Gunn returns to write and direct the MCU film, which stars Chris Pratt as Peter Quill/Star-Lord, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax, Karen Gillan as Nebula, Pom Klementieff as Mantis, Vin Diesel as Groot, Bradley Cooper as Rocket, Sean Gunn as Kraglin, Chukwudi Iwuji as High Evolutionary, Will Poulter as Adam Warlock, and Maria Bakalova as Cosmo the Spacedog. Kevin Feige serves as the producer, while Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Nikolas Korda, Simon Hatt, and Sara Smith serve as executive producers.
One Last Cosmic Thrill-Ride
Following the aftermaths of Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, the Guardians haven’t necessarily been back to normal. Now having their headquarters on a rebuilt Knowhere as it seemed like any other evening, they are suddenly attacked by Adam Warlock. During the attack, Rocket is seriously wounded to the point where he is just inches away from death. Providing medical aid to save Rocket’s life, the Guardians discover that they are unable to help him due to a kill switch embedded on his heart. They realize that they must travel to the Orgosphere, the official headquarters of Orgocorp, in the hopes of finding an override code that’ll save Rocket.
Meanwhile, Rocket’s creator, the High Evolutionary, becomes obsessed with retrieving his former test subject, while Ayesha (Elizabeth Debicki) is still seeking revenge against the Guardians for their previous theft of her property in the previous film. With the assistance of the Ravagers, which is now being led by Stakar Ogord (Sylvester Stallone), and 2014-Gamora, the Guardians successfully infiltrate the Orgosphere to retrieve Rocket’s file. However, they easily become compromised and are attacked by the Orgosphere’s guards. They were barely able to escape after Star-Lord remotely hacks and activates the guards’ suit jetpacks. The Guardians come to learn that Theel (Nico Santos), one of the High Evolutionary’s lead scientists, may have the override code stored in his memory in a device that’s attached to his head.
The Guardians then decide to travel to Counter-Earth; completely going against Gamora’s advice. Ayesha and Warlock were able to intercept a communication from Gamora to a Ravager before Warlock kills him during the interrogation and decides to follow Gamora’s coordinates to Counter-Earth. Star-Lord, Nebula, and Groot track down Theel on the High Evolutionary’s currently docked ship. Star-Lord and Groot were granted access to board the High Evolutionary’s ship, with Nebula being forced to wait outside with the High Evolutionary’s guards.
The Saddest & Darkest MCU Film to Date
Mantis unwillingly goes with Drax to the ship, which then begins to launch with Star-Lord and Groot now captured onboard. As the ship launches into space, the High Evolutionary completely destroys Counter-Earth. Star-Lord and Groot successfully defeat the High Evolutionary’s men and capture Theel, jumping off the ship with him and retrieving his memory before meeting up with Gamora. Meanwhile, Nebula, Mantis, and Drax are onboard and trapped on the High Evolutionary’s ship, as Adam Warlock is too late to stop his home planet from being destroyed by the High Evolutionary.
Back on the Guardians’ ship, Rocket flatlines and appears at the gates of heaven, where he is met by his former test subject friends. As Rocket is told that his time has not yet come, Star-Lord successfully implements the override code and revives Rocket. Mantis, Nebula, and Drax come across a very large group of captured children of various species on the High Evolutionary’s ship before being captured themselves. The three escape were able to escape the chamber before reuniting with the Guardians and overpowering the High Evolutionary’s army once and for all.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is the third and final MCU film in the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy, with a total runtime of 2 hours and 30 minutes. The film is currently scheduled to release on May 5th, only in theaters. It has also been confirmed that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 contains two post-credit scenes with the acknowledgment of a certain character that will be returning. In the United States and Canada, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 is currently projected to gross around $110 million during its opening weekend.
