God Of War Ragnarok feels like it came out only yesterday, but fans are already hoping for some sort of DLC or an expansion. The God of War game from 2018 did not get any DLC or expansions whatsoever, not even cosmetic, so it was already fair to assume nothing like that would come to fruition for Ragnarok either. But we don’t need to speculate as the director of God of War Ragnarok at Sony Santa Monica confirmed that fans should not expect any sort of DLC for the game but also said something very interesting relating to Castlevania.
God of War Ragnarok DLC
In a discussion on the Kinda Funny Games Spoilercast, Eric Williams was asked if God of War Ragnarok would get DLC or additional content, but he shook his head and said it probably won’t happen.
“Um, I don’t know man, that game is big, like, we put everything we had into it [God of War Ragnarok] , so I wouldn’t count on it.”
Is Sony Santa Monica Making A Castlevania Game?
He quickly dismissed any notion of future expansions, but he far more interestingly, he was very quick to say that he would love to take a crack at the long-running Castlevania franchise from Konami.
Eric Williams said that if someone can get him that Castlevania license, he would love to work on it. That gives a lot of hope to all who cared for the beloved franchise that has remained dormant for far too long at this point.
Castlevania has been a mainstay of the gaming landscape since the legendary Symphony of the Night came out back in 1997. More recently, Lords of Shadow 1 and 2 were all there was to represent the franchise. The criminally underrated games got buried fairly quickly, and since then, the IP has remained MIA, except for the amazing Netflix show.
What makes it more than just a passing comment is that Williams said he “just got in so much trouble” for mentioning Castlevania, which gives some credence to the possibility that Sony Santa Monica might one day be making a Castlevania game.
It would be no less than a perfect pairing if the development talent at Sony Santa Monica worked on a legendary franchise like Castlevania. Maybe SSM can breathe new life and interest into the morbid, dark, and fascinating world of Castlevania where no one else could. And since the series has limitless possibilities, we could be looking at a franchise in the making.
