Frank Miller is making a comeback to the world of Daredevil. Years after his landmark Daredevil: Born Again arc, Miller is back with the cover art for Saladin Ahmed’s Daredevil #1. Marvel showed off the cover, which is crafted in classic Miller style. It depicts the Man Without Fear front and center amidst an all-black background. It is similar to the covers Miller has recently done for the new Blade series and the Ghost Rider/Wolverine crossover.
Frank Miller’s History With Daredevil
Frank Miller is often associated with bringing about one of the best eras of Daredevil comics in Marvel history: Daredevil: Born Again. The series, created by Miller and Klaus Johnson, sees a rebirth of Matt Murdock/Daredevil into the modern hero audiences are familiar with. This storyline is considered an influential piece in what ushered in a Modern Age for comic books.
The arc helped bring several iconic characters to Daredevil, including Elektra and Stick. Plus, it helped shape iconic Marvel villains like Kingpin and Bullseye into what they are today. It also serves as inspiration for the upcoming Disney+ series of the same name, which is good considering star Charlie Cox is a big fan of the material.
Miller’s work with The Man Without Fear completely revolutionized Marvel comics. The daring storylines and pulse-pounding action soon became a staple in both Daredevil and other Marvel comics. Now, Daredevil is about to undergo another transformation with a reboot series this fall.
A New Era Begins
This September, Saladin Ahmed and artist Aaron Kuder are ushering in a new era for Daredevil. While the details of what Matt Murdock is getting up to in the new series are scarce, Ahmed is eager to share that it will blow readers’ minds:
“I wanted to only take this job on if I felt like I had a new, unique take on Matt and on Hell’s Kitchen. And so that’s at the center of this… him and his world, but it’s the Marvel Universe. What I’ve really enjoyed in talking with other editors, other offices, is finding ways through these first couple of arcs we have planned to keep this centered on Matt, keep this centered on his people, in his world, but to bring (in a very organic and surprising fun way) some familiar Marvel figures that I think are going to blow people’s mind when they pop up on the page!”
The new run of Daredevil kicks off on September 13.
