This November Marvel is taking Yelena Belova on her own adventure in a new White Widow series. White Widow #1 comes from the creative team of Sarah Gailey and Alessandro Miracolo. It sees the fan-favorite superspy embark on a new chapter in her life. While the White Widow has a complicated past, she is now free to make her own way in the world. Will she abandon bad habits or carve a better place for herself in the Marvel Universe?
Yelena Belova Is The White Widow
Within the Marvel Universe, Yelena Belova is forged into the perfect assassin and spy by the Red Room Academy. Brainwashed and trained to despise the Black Widow (Natasha Romanova), the two often tried to kill one another. However, after a scheme by Black Widow that showed Yelena how she was being manipulated, Yelena abandoned her path of obsession.
Eventually, Belova found herself working with S.H.I.E.L.D. until a severe injury put her in the hands of A.I.M. Unfortunately, she met her end in the war between A.I.M. and S.H.I.E.L.D. However, the Red Room has ways of recovering their elite members, and she was resurrected into a clone body. Now, she serves as an ally to Black Widow under the guise of the White Widow. She is often found training young female spies. Now, she has a chance to make up for past sins and find her own place in the world.
A New Series And A Fresh Start
Writer Sarah Gailey recently shared that she is excited to “launch White Widow into her series”. After all, Yelena Belova is an “Incredible character” within the Marvel Universe. The character “deserves independence, community, and the opportunity to kill on her own terms”. And that is exactly what this new series is offering the superspy. However, will the White Widow take this opportunity, or will she be pulled back into her old ways? Only time will tell.
