Cult classic American Psycho is getting a comic book sequel from the folks at Sumerian Comics. The miniseries will feature the return of Patrick Bateman, portrayed by Christian Bale in the 2000 film. The publisher even got the rights for Bale’s likeness, so the serial killer will look much like he did in the film. Plus, the series features two different narratives spread over four issues. News of the series comes just as this year’s Comic-Con kicks off.

The comic miniseries will feature a dual narrative. One of the narratives will focus on Bateman’s killing spree, as seen in the American Psycho film. However, Sumerian Comics promises a twist to the original perspective that will surely excite fans of the horror classic. Meanwhile, the other narrative focuses on a modern-day psychopath, Charlene “Charlie” Carruthers. This social media-obsessed lunatic heads down a violent spiral filled with drugs and bloodshed, all in the hopes of learning more about her own dark nature.

Of course, eagle-eyed fans of the original film have already spotted a potential connection between Charlie and Bateman. In the film, it is revealed that Bateman is having an affair with his friend Luis Carruthers’ girlfriend. Is it possible that Bateman got her pregnant and she went on to marry Luis and pretend the baby was his? Is Charlie the daughter of Patrick Bateman and does murder run in the family?

First Look and Creative Team

Alongside the announcement of the miniseries, Sumerian released a look at some of the art for the book. The cover for the debut issue shows Bale’s Patrick Bateman wielding a bloody axe, an image familiar to those who have seen the American Psycho film. Meanwhile, a variant cover shows the modern-day Charlie in red-bottom heels dragging a bloody axe behind her – equally as sinister.

The four-issue American Psycho series comes from Quested writer Michael Calero. Joining him is artist Piotr Kowalski, who is known for his work on The Witcher comic series. The first issue hits shelves on October 11, just in time for the spooky season.
