Whether you want a wholesome show or one of the best Isekai anime, you will find something this season. To make your choosing process easier, we’ve prepared a list of the best 10 anime to watch in summer 2023. Most have already premiered, while others are just a few days away from getting their first episode. Without further ado, let’s begin!
Best Anime for the Summer 2023
Making the list of the best 10 anime of summer 2023 was challenging due to all the fantastic releases of the season, yet, we tried to include a bit of everything. We have new anime and some with second seasons that will attract many viewers to these shows.
10. Reign of the Seven Spellblades – J.C. Staff
When it comes to anime, we never get tired of seeing some surprising combinations of different things that already exist. For example, last season, we had Mashle, which could be described as One Punch Man meets Harry Potter. This time, we have Reign of the Seven Spellblades, in which SAO meets Harry Potter, and yes, magic is big in anime again. The first episode did a great job at introducing all characters, and while it has some clichés, it had a solid start. It remains to see if it’ll hold up throughout the season, but it has made a good first impression so far.
9. The Devil is a Part-Timer! Season 2 (Sequel) – Studio 3Hz
We thought to add this one to our list of the best 10 anime of summer 2023, as fans have been waiting for it for a long time. There was an almost 10-year gap between the first two seasons, and the new one will be a sequel to the second one. What can we say about this one? It has one of the most fun plots in recent anime. You have the literal Devil who is forced to travel to modern Tokyo and work as a burger flipper. It’s like a reverse Isekai where “fantasy” characters must adapt to a modern lifestyle in a hilarious show with action, romance, and even a baby.
8. Liar Liar – Geek Toys
Do you all remember No Game No Life? Well, this isn’t the same, but it keeps us occupied while we wait for a new season of that anime. Liar Liar is an anime set in Academy Island, where games are deception are everything. One thing we liked about this anime is that the protagonist, while at first looks edgy, is a guy who has no idea what he’s doing there. Yeah, it is your typical harem anime in many ways, but it has some fun moments worth watching. It aired with a double-episode premiere, and so far, it hasn’t disappointed.
7. My Happy Marriage – Kinema Citrus
Hold on to your seats because we have the Cinderella anime of the season! My Happy Marriage kicks off with an almost exact plot as the aforementioned fairy tale, but how it is presented is fantastic. It has a lovable protagonist, a fantastic husbando, and an amazing cast ready to give us one of the best anime of summer 2023. Many will love this anime because it has great historical topics and an amazing plot.
6. Rent a Girlfriend Season 3 – TMS Entertainment
Love or hate it, Rent a Girlfriend Season 3 is here, and many have been waiting for it. While a lot of people dislike the protagonist, and with good reason, many watch it due to the girls and the intricate stories they have. While the first season begins in the most cliché ways, it shapes into something worth watching that will hook many viewers. If you want to see what will happen with Mitzuhara and Kazuya, now’s the time!
5. Horimiya: The Missing Pieces – CloverWorks
Now that we’ve reached the fifth spot on our list of the best anime of summer 2023, let’s talk about Horimiya: The Missing Pieces. This new adaptation isn’t a new season, as it will only complement the first one with other stories from the source material. Things like the Kyoto field trip are bound to appear in the show. It is great for fans of the series who want more from this amazing slice-of-life anime.
4. Bleach: Thousand Year Blood War Second Cour – Pierrot
It is only normal for many anime to release a whole season in two blocks, and that’s the case for Bleach: Thousand Year Blood War. This cour will show a new arc and introduce viewers to many new Soul Reapers. This is one of the most anticipated anime of the season, and fans of the manga can’t wait for it.
3. Mushoku Tensei Season 2 – Studio Bind
Many people consider Mushoku Tensei a controversial anime, but leaving the fan service aside and some weird situations, it is a masterclass in Isekai anime. Our heartbroken hero, Rudeus, returns to look for his mother in this second season. The studio has already confirmed the anime will have two blocks, with one airing this summer and the next one in the spring of 2024. Yet, this one will feature 13 episodes and show some of the best arcs of the source material.
2. Zom-100: Bucket List of the Dead – BUG FILMS
One of the most efficient ways to quit your toxic job is by being part of a zombie apocalypse, and Zom-100: Bucket List of the Dead shows us that in a superb way. The first episode started with a bang which shows we’re in for a treat. It has one of the best openings of the season and a huge cast that plays their roles to perfection. The highlight of this anime is the irony of being happier in an apocalypse than when working, something many might find relatable.
1. Jujutsu Kaisen Second Season – MAPPA
MAPPA has been knocking it out of the park lately with shows like Hell’s Paradise and Chainsaw Man, and the studio isn’t stopping any time soon. This time we have the long-awaited second season of Jujutsu Kaisen, which adapts three arcs from the manga. It will have two blocks, with the first airing this summer and the next in the fall. The first block focuses on Gojo’s young days and his relationship with Geto. What can we say about this? It has a fantastic opening, high-quality animation, and some of the best characters ever.
