Netflix has released the teaser trailer for Tim Burton’s Wednesday series, which like many of Burton’s projects, is looking to be quite twisted. TV Line reports that this teaser gives us our first look at Jenna Ortega as the woeful and gothy Wednesday Addams, who we first see in silhouette tying her famous pigtails. She then steps completely into the light revealing herself to us, and we also get a cameo from the disembodied but living hand known as Thing, who is covered in stitches. Both snap their fingers in true Addams family fashion. The trailer’s text reads, “Netflix woefully presents a twisted new series from the mind of Tim Burton.”
Jenna Ortega Portrays Scary Wednesday in Teaser Trailer
The Addams Family started as a series of New Yorker cartoons before becoming a major success with the 1964 sitcom. Variety reports that while the original sitcom portrayed Wednesday as sweet-natured, Christina Ricci’s portrayal of the character was much more gloomy and sadistic. This take on Wednesday made her one of the most popular characters in the franchise. Ortega, who we know from the recent Scream film and who we will see in Scream 6, appears to be taking on the same dark take on the character Ricci took. Ricci is set to appear in the series, though her specific role has not been revealed.
Addams Family Members Will Appear in Tim Burton’s Wednesday Series
Wednesday is not the only member of the altogether ooky family we will see in Burton’s Wednesday series. Catherine Zeta-Jones will be a series regular as Morticia Addams. Luis Guzmán will appear as Gomez. 10-year-old actor Isaac Ordonez (A Wrinkle in Time) will have a recurring role as Wednesday’s brother Pugsley. And actor George Burcea will portray the family butler Lurch.
