Who Is Ray Stevenson?
Stevenson was born in Northern Ireland on May 25, 1964, and moved to England with his family when he was only eight years old. Stevenson’s career in entertainment began in the early 1990s when he bagged starring roles in several television miniseries. The actor continued in British television for a while. After years of hard work, he finally made his film debut in 1998, appearing in Paul Greengrass’s The Theory of Flight. King Arthur
The actor made a name for himself in 2004 when he landed a role in Antoine Faqua’s King Arthur, starring Keira Knightley. The adventure drama tells the story of King Arthur, a reluctant leader, who wants to return the peace and stability of Rome. However, before he can, a mission leads him to the conclusion that when Rome is captured, Britain will need a new leader. Stevenson played Dagonet, a knight of Arthur’s round table.
Rome
Ray Stevenson was famous for his movies as much as his television shows. In 2005, one year after King Arthur aired, the star cemented his place in the movie industry by landing one of the major roles in the series Rome. The actor played Titus Pullo, one of two ordinary Roman soldiers, who turn into heroes after witnessing and influencing many of the historical events presented in the drama. The series ran for two seasons and 22 episodes from August 28, 2005, to March 27, 2007.
Thor
Stevenson starred in several movies but his role in MCU’s Thor remains unforgettable. The actor’s career took a gigantic leap in 2011 when he appeared as Volstagg, a member of the Warriors Three, who were allied to Chris Hemsworth’s Thor. After appearing in the first film in the franchise, Stevenson reprised his role in the next three films — Thor: The Dark World, Thor: Ragnarok, and Thor: Love and Thunder.
Punisher: War Zone
Fans of Marvel Studios productions know that Stevenson appeared in more than one MCU film. Before taking on the role of Volstagg, Stevenson starred as the Punisher also known as violent vigilante Frank Castle, the main character in Marvel’s adaptation of Punisher: War Zone.
Vikings
Another one of Ray Stevenson’s notable television shows, Vikings began airing on March 3, 2013. After running for six seasons and 89 episodes, the series concluded on December 30, 2020. In the production, Stevenson played Othere, a mysterious wanderer and sailor. He landed in Iceland after the disappearance of Floki. He spoke of the Golden Land he found during a voyage that almost cost him his life. Othere also told tales of lush and verdant land to the west.
RRR
RRR in one of Ray Stevenson’s recent movies. It premiered in March 2022 and told the story of how a fearless revolutionary and an officer in the British force, who once shared a deep bond, decided to join forces and chart out an inspirational path of freedom against despotic rulers. In the movie, Stevenson played evil governor Scott Buxton, who fought Indian revolutionaries in a bid to suppress the revolts. The film was considered a huge success, grossing over $150 million and setting several Box Office records for an Indian film. Also, RRR bagged nominations for Golden Globe and Oscar Awards, as well as awards at the 28th Critics Choice Awards for Best Foreign Language Film and Best Song. Ultimately, the movie gave Stevenson’s career a lift and a strong Indian fanbase.
