Days of Our Lives Peacock NBC

NBC is losing Days of Our Lives to Peacock. The network’s longest-running series departs this September after running for 57 seasons as a part of an effort to move toward the streaming platform and “reach and strengthen engagement with viewers,” as said by NBCUniversal Television and Streaming chairman Mark Lazarus in a statement.

Shifting a show from one avenue to another does cause a gap in time slots. Days of Our Lives will be replaced by NBC News Daily. The hour-long news show is anchored by Kate Snow, Aaron Gilchrist, Vicky Nguyen, and Morgan Radford. For affiliates, you can add local news to the time slot instead.

NBC moves Days of Our Lives to Peacock TV

The cost of Peacock is $4.99 a month with limited ads. For $9.99, the platform is ad-free and allows users to download programs to watch offline. As the entire industry shifts to focus on streaming, whether that is putting it on a third-party platform like Netflix or Hulu or developing its own platform like NBC with Peacock or Disney with Disney Plus. As time moved forward, it seemed inevitable that one of the longest-running shows would go to streaming, especially with it having its spinoff, Beyond Salem, already on the service.

Corday Productions and Sony Pictures Television produced the series. It is currently in a two-season renewal, putting Days of Our Lives set for season 58 next year. Starting this fall, season 57 will surpass Guiding Light‘s running record. By 2023, it will be the second longest-running series daytime drama for American TV, putting it right behind ABC’s General Hospital.

Out of the four daytime dramas on the network, Days of Our Lives on NBC was left behind last season. It averaged 1.7 million viewers a day. Compared to other soap operas, CBS continues to find success with The Young and the Restless (3.47 million daily viewers). It is unknown how its viewership will be impacted when shifting to streaming full-time, but it could help boost the platform’s 13 million paid subscribers (along with its 28 million total accounts).
