Archewell founders Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s deal with the streaming giant Netflix is far from over despite ongoing speculations. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been subject to media speculations since confirming the end of their production company, Archewell Audio’s deal with Spotify. By implication, their series, Archetypes, which has twelve episodes so far, ceased to air on the platform. The announcement led to speculations that Spotify cut ties with the couple owing to their imminent descent to rock bottom amid their back and forth with the royal family.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Netflix Deal Still Intact
Consequently, many predicted that other platforms would follow suit, parting ways for similar reasons, with Netflix taking the lead. However, the streaming giant has now debunked those flaring rumors. A Netflix spokesperson released a statement. The statement read,
“The bond with Archewell Productions is one we deeply value. Harry & Meghan launched as Netflix’s most spectacular documentary debut to date. Our exciting journey with them isn’t ending anytime soon. We’re currently collaborating on numerous projects, including the much-anticipated documentary series Heart of Invictus.”
This comes after a Netflix source disclosed to DailyMail that the relationship between Netflix and the couple, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, hasn’t always been great. According to the source, while Harry was often easy to work with, Meghan posed a difficulty, as she believed she knew “how to run Hollywood.”
The source also cited the couple’s explosive Oprah interview on CBS. The source revealed Netflix frowned upon it because they believed they should have “gotten the first bite of the cherry.” However, the statement from Netflix’s spokesperson invalidates these claims, ultimately putting the rumors to rest.
The Sussexes Subject to Recent Backlash
It didn’t help that a Spotify executive addressed their discontinued partnership around that time, describing the royal couple as grifters. Explaining their decision to part ways with Archewell, insiders revealed Harry and Meghan failed to meet the productivity benchmark stipulated in the contract.
The couple also faced concurrent media attacks, with some high-profile figures taking jabs at them amid Harry’s legal battles. All these made the end of their deal with Netflix seem inevitable.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle signed their multiyear deal with Netflix following their 2020 step down from their roles as senior royals and subsequent move to California. As part of this deal, they produced a Netflix series, Harry & Meghan, in December 2022, providing a look at their love story and decision to bid farewell to their lives as royals, which ranks amongst the streamer’s highest-rated shows to date.
