Amazon Prime Video is ready to ride the waves with Surf Girl Hawaii. The upcoming documentary series, premiering this July, will follow five up-and-coming Hawaiian surfers as they compete for a spot in the professional surfing World Tour. The five-part series will give audiences and surfing fans alike an in-depth look at the lives and talents of Moana Jones Wong, Ewe Wong, Maluhia Kinimaka, Pua DeSoto and Brianna Cope as they balance their personal lives and training regimens to complete against some of the best surfers in the world.
A new trailer for Surf Girls Hawaii was dropped earlier today, showcasing the northern coast of Oahu as “the Mecca of surfing.” The audience is introduced to Maluhia Kinimaka, Moana James Wong, Brianna Cope, Ewe Wong, and Pua DeSoto, five childhood friends described as the “next generation of Native Hawaiian surfing.” Though the five girls may be friends while on land, it’s clear that when the boards hit the waves, all bets are off as they compete to prove themselves as professional surfers.
Surf Girls Hawaii Trailer Showcases Pressure & Competitive Spirit
According to Deadline, an integral part of Surf Girls Hawaii that the new trailer highlights are the pressure each girl faces and the setbacks they must overcome to achieve their ultimate surfing goals. In particular, Moana James Wong speaks on the importance of having Native Hawaiian surfers compete on a larger world stage since they represent a crucial part of Hawaiian culture. The trailer also shows the girls’ demanding training regimes, from boxing to hauling a large rocks across the ocean floor.
Surf Girls Hawaii is being produced by Hello Sunshine, the same studio behind Amazon Prime Video’s Daisy Jones & the Six, in partnership with Togethxr. Reese Witherspoon will be the executive producer for the series, along with Sara Rea from Hello Sunshine. Reni Calister, Jessica Robertson, and Brett Bouttier will produce for Togethxr. Erik Logan and Jed Pearson IV have boarded Surf Girls Hawaii on behalf of the World Surf League, or WSL. Leslie Garvin, Dara Horenblas, Monica Medellin, Ramy Romany, Tyler O’Neil, and Tomiko Jones will also serve as co-executive producers, along with Molly Micalef as a producer.
Surf Girls Hawaii will premiere on Amazon Prime Video on July 18th.
