At long last, fans have gotten a look at what to expect from Insomniac’s Spider-Man 2. The long-awaited sequel will allow players to take control of Peter and Miles, with each character offering a unique experience. The game will also feature Venom and Peter dealing with the symbiote suit. For the first game, fans loved how many classic villains showed up. So far, Venom, Kraven the Hunter, and The Lizard have been confirmed to appear. In the hype for Spider-Man 2, there are other villains fans hope Insomniac puts in the game.
10. Mysterio
The first game already implied Spidey had gone toe to toe with Mysterio. Outside of some references, the character himself does not appear in the title. Spider-Man 2 will have Peter dealing with his own internal struggles thanks to the symbiote, so Mysterio could easily take advantage. The previous game had a trippy segment where Scorpian poisons Peter, causing him to hallucinate. A similar segment could appear in the sequel courtesy of Mysterio. Mysterio is as popular as ever, thanks to his live-action debut in Spider-Man: Far From Home, and fans would love to face him in the new game.
9. Wraith
Even if she doesn’t appear in the sequel, the odds are excellent that Wraith will appear in the Insomniac Spider-Man games. NYPD Captain Yuri Watanabe was a major character throughout the first game’s story. She was one of Peter’s most loyal allies in his fight against Mr. Negative and the Devil’s Breath. In the City That Never Sleeps DLC story. However, her sanity begins to slip. Becoming obsessed with bringing down Hammerhead, Yuri becomes discouraged by all the criminals slipping through the legal system. She leaves the NYPD and severs ties with Spider-Man, taking justice into her own hands. While her vigilante name is never spoken, comic fans know it is only a matter of time before Yuri reemerges as the Wraith.
8. Sandman
Yet another character that is referenced in the first game yet never appears is Sandman. One of the game’s major collectibles is backpacks Peter left throughout the city while he was in high school. These backpacks contain items that clue players into events that happened prior to the game’s events. One of these bags contains a vial of sand that supposedly carries the Sandman with it. Peter even jokingly states that he isn’t sure Sandman will escape if the vial were opened. It is entirely possible that a symbiote-infused Peter could let Sandman loose, making for some unique boss fights.
7. Chameleon
One villain already confirmed for Insomniac’s Spider-Man 2 is Kraven the Hunter. In the comics, Kraven has a half-brother named Dmitri Smerdyakov. Dmitri has his own villainous persona as The Chameleon. Chameleon is able to take the form of anybody he wishes, which has constantly messed with Spider-Man’s head. Being able to transform into anyone allows him access to any place he pleases, making him a seriously dangerous foe. The game could have some creative mechanics revolving around Chameleon and his ever-changing face. Bringing the character into the story would cause the players not to trust anything they see,
6. Spot
One of the more underrated villains fans hope Insomniac pays tribute to is Spot. Real name, Johnathon Ohn; Spot is covered head to toe in dark spots. These dark spots are actually mini interdimensional portals Spot can use as weapons or to defend himself with. These powers make him a worthy adversary to Spider-Man and could make for thrilling fights in a game. There are countless creative ways a Spot boss battle could go, which is why fans want to see him so badly. There are even ways Spot can naturally fit into the game’s story. In the comics, Spot gets his powers from the same place Mister Negative got his powers from, who, of course, was the primary villain in the first game. The two have even worked together, which could be a seamless introduction for the character.
5. Crossbones
While not superpowered, Crossbones could make for a worthy foe in the new game. Taskmaster appeared in a series of side missions in the previous game. In the comics, Crossbones and Taskmaster joined forces on several occasions. Taskmaster’s inclusion in the last game could once again lead to a smooth segway to Crossbone’s inclusion in the sequel. Crossbones is a ruthless fighter who constantly pushes Spider-Man to his limit. In fact, Peter often needs assistance to take him on. Crossbones would be a perfect way for players to switch between Peter and Miles in order to take him out.
4. Molten Man
While not one of the greatest villains, Molten Man could be an interesting addition to Insomniac’s Spider-Man 2 for several reasons. For starters, his comic origins heavily involve Norman Osborn. The former NYC mayor already has it out for the webhead, thanks to the events of the first game. In the comics, Norman kidnaps and brainwashes Molten Man to go after Spider-Man. Norman is shady in these games, so this is absolutely something he is capable of. In addition to this, Molten Man could make for some engaging and intense boss battles. The player would likely be unable to attack him directly, so they would need to rely on their wits as well as the environment to take him on.
3. Alistaire Smythe
Alistaire Smythe is a villain with ties to Kingpin as well as Norman Osborn, making him perfect for Insomniac to use in Spider-Man 2. The character is a genius scientist responsible for the Spider-Slayers. The Slayers are robots designed with the sole purpose of taking out Spider-Man. The game will heavily feature Peter in his symbiote suit, meaning he will be far more violent and brash as a result. It makes perfect sense for Smythe and the Spider-Slayers to appear, thanks to the public fearing the more violent Peter. Also, in the comics, J. Jonah Jameson had a hand in funding the Slayers, meaning he could play a bigger part in the sequel outside of vocal cameos.
2. Morbius
While most see the Living Vampire as nothing more than a meme, thanks to the ill-fated live-action film, Morbius is actually a dangerous villain. The character is a vampire that frequently crosses paths with Spider-Man. The character could be behind several side quests in the game, making players rely on detective skills to solve grisly murders. The inclusion of Morbius could introduce an element of horror in the game, a tone that would fit in well with a story involving Venom. Having Morbius being a serious threat could help wash out the taste of the movie and show casual fans just how dangerous the character can be.
1. Green Goblin
Perhaps the most obvious villain fans are waiting to see is Green Goblin. As mentioned before, Norman Osborn has it out for Peter thanks to Spider-Man helping to out Norman as a criminal in the last game. In addition, countless easter eggs foreshadow the classic villain scattered throughout the first title. Spider-Man looks to be jam-packed with content as it is, so Green Goblin may not appear as a villain just yet. However, fans will welcome him with open arms if he does show up. The seeds have already been planted, so it is only a matter of time before Norman fully snaps and takes to the skies as the Goblin.
