The final trailer for Blue Beetle is here. This movie is not only going to introduce Blue Beetle to the world, but James Gunn has said he is the first character of the new DCU, which will start with Superman Legacy. Recently it was announced that a new series of comics will also be released that follows the story of the Blue Beetle film. In the final trailer, we get a better look at the villain of the story, the Scarab that gives the hero his powers, and other details. So here is the full breakdown for the final trailer of Blue Beetle.
Breakdown of the Final Blue Beetle Trailer
The trailer starts with Jaime Reyes trying to learn to use the flying ability that the Scarab has given him. It is an obvious metaphor for the character’s rise from the state in which he is living. Then we see Reyes going inside Kord Industries for a job interview, but as we saw in the previous trailer, Jenny hands Reyes a box with a little blue scarab on it.
Next, we see a family scene where Jenny is trying to explain what the blue Scarab is. This is probably a scene from an early part of the movie. Things escalate quickly as Jaime is chosen by the Scarab to be used as its host. As a result, he turns into the Blue Beetle. The interesting thing about the suit is the voice of the Scarab.
In the comics, the Scarab is a powerful alien entity that even the Green Lanterns get into fights with. The voice of Scarab in the trailer seems like an AI assistant akin to Iron Man’s J.A.R.V.I.S. In the comics, Scarab is like a second consciousness inside its host.
The Villains Arrive
Next, we get some shots that we already saw from the previous trailer as the suit protects Jaime from an oncoming bus. After, we get to see the main villains of the movie: Conrad Carapax and his employer, Victoria Kord. Conrad was first introduced in DC Comics in the first issue of Blue Bettle (1986). Conrad’s ability, like Blue Beetle’s, lies in his mecha suit.
In the comics, Carapax accidentally transforms his body into a robot that we get to see in more detail as the trailer progresses. There are a lot of similarities between Blue Beetle and Carapax, which means we will get some amazing action sequences between these two.
But Carapax is just the muscle; Victoria Kord is the brains. Kord runs Kord Industries, where Jaime got the Scarab. In the trailer, Victoria says that the Scarab has chosen him, but it belongs to her. This suggests that we might get some history behind the previous owner of the Scarab, Ted Kord.
Ted Kord was the second Blue Beetle in the series when it was owned by Charlton Comics before DC acquired the company. In the comics, the Scarab never chose Ted Kord as its host, even though he owned the Scarab. All of his powers were thanks to the gadgets he designed and invented at Kord Industries. So, we might get some more history about who he was in the movie as well.

After this, we get some footage of fights between Carapax and Blue Beetle that leads to a scene where Kord Industries attacks Jaime’s house. While he is fighting them here, in the previous trailer we got to see Jaime’s house burning as he was laying on the street in pretty rough shape. The trailer ends with Jaime’s Nana grabbing and using a futuristic mini gun.
Blue Beetle will release in theaters on August 17.
