DC and Warner Bros. have recently unveiled our first look at the DCEU’s newest superhero, Blue Beetle. The upcoming American superhero film is based on the DC Comics character Jaime Reyes aka Blue Beetle. The all-new trailer reveals lead star Xolo Maridueña taking flight as Jaime Reyes who is the third person to take up on the Blue Beetle mantle. Jaime Reyes is also known for being one of the most prominent Latino superheroes from the DC comics universe. You can check out the official trailer for Blue Beetle below.
Blue Beetle is the First Solo Latino Superhero Film
The upcoming highly-anticipated film will serve as Warner Bros.’ first solo superhero film featuring a Latino character. The official synopsis comes out of courtesy of Warner Bros. Discovery that reads as follows: Recent college grad Jaime Reyes (Xolo Maridueña) returns home full of aspirations for his future, only to find that home is not quite as he left it. As he searches to find his purpose in the world, fate intervenes when Jaime unexpectedly finds himself in possession of an ancient relic of alien biotechnology: the Scarab. When the Scarab suddenly chooses Jaime to be its symbiotic host, he is bestowed with an incredible suit of armor capable of extraordinary and unpredictable powers, forever changing his destiny as he becomes the superhero Blue Beetle.
The rest of the ensemble cast includes George Lopez, who plays the role of Uncle Rudy Reyes, Elpidia Carrillo as Rocio Reyes, and Raoul Max Trujillo as Carapax the Indestructible Man. Other cast members featured in the film include Adriana Barraza, Jorge Jimenez, Bruna Marquezine, Belissa Escobedo, and Damián Alcázar. The film was originally developed as an HBO Max original film, alongside the now-shelved Batgirl, but Warner Bros. had shifted the project to a theatrical release last year prior to James Gunn and Peter Safran taking over DC Studios. Blue Beetle is produced by DC Studios, and the Safran Company., and directed by Angel Manuel Soto from a screenplay by Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer. It is intended to be the 14th film in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). Blue Beetle is currently scheduled to release only in theaters on Aug. 18, 2023.
