The Conjuring franchise continues as Warner Bros. has released the trailer of The Nun 2, starring Taissa Farmiga, who reprises her role as Sister Irene (seen below). The film changes things up with a new director, Michael Chaves (The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It), and writer, Akela Cooper (M3GAN). The first film was helmed by Corin Hardy (Gangs of London) and penned by Gary Dauberman (Annabelle Comes Home).
Not much is known about the plot. It is set four years after the first film, as The Nun 2 trailer sets the stage in 1956 when a priest in France is murdered. The footage teases more background on the evil Valak, who was once an angel. As this school gets haunted by Valek, who wants more of the power it once had, Sister Irene must go face-to-face with the Nun all over again.
Valak and Taissa Farmiga Return to The Conjuring Franchise in The Nun 2 Trailer
The other returning star alongside Taissa Farmiga is Bonnie Aarons, who plays Valak. She made her debut in The Conjuring 2 and made a brief appearance in Annabelle: Creation before her standalone movie in 2018. Other stars include Storm Reid (Euphoria), Anna Popplewell (Reign), and Kately Rose Downey (Clean Sweep).
The Nun 2 trailer sets the right horrific tone, but what its reception and box office performance will be like is anyone’s guess. The first film is the lowest-rated of the franchise on Rotten Tomatoes at 25% but is the highest-grossing entry with $363 million. When it comes to the ranking of the Tomatometer, from lowest to highest, it is: The Nun (25%), Annabella (28%), The Curse of La Llorana (28%), The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It (55%), Annabelle Comes Home (64%), Annabelle: Creation (70%), The Conjuring 2 (80%), and The Conjuring (86%). When it comes to the box office, the numbers are: The Curse of La Llorana ($123 million), The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It ($200 million), Annabelle Comes Home ($230 million), Annabelle: Creation ($305 million), The Conjuring 2 ($310 million), and The Conjuring ($316 million).
Executive producers include Victoria Palmeri, Dave Neustadter, Gary Dauberman, Michael Clear, and Richard Brener. James Wan, Peter Safran, and Judson Scott produce.
The Nun 2 releases in theaters on September 8.
