Months after Disney revealed Princess Diaries 3 was already in the works, Chris Pine says he would happily reprise his character Nicholas Devereaux in the upcoming sequel if called upon.
Disney sent the internet buzzing late last year when it was confirmed that Princess Diaries 3 was already underway. This was coming 18 years after the last installment in the franchise, 2004’s The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Supergirl writer Aadrita Mukerji is developing the script for the third film. Also, producer Debra Martin Chase who worked on the previous two films will be returning to this project. The movie is understood to be a continuity of the film rather than a reboot.
Although lead star Anne Hathaway has previously voiced her desire for a third installment, she hasn’t been signed on to the project yet. During an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Hathaway said:
“I would more than entertain it, I’m pulling for it,’ she said emphatically. ‘If there’s any way to get Julie Andrews involved, I think we would make it work. We would go to where she was and put a green screen behind her and just make it happen.”
Unfortunately, Andrews admitted that she would likely not be involved in a third installment earlier in 2022. However, one other face fans would like to see in the sequel is Chris Pine.

Chris Pine In Princess Diaries
Actor Chris Pine first appeared in 2004’s Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement as Nicholas Devereaux. He was the love interest of Mia Thermopolis portrayed by Oscar-winning actress Anne Hathaway.
Pine shot into fame after starring in the second installment of the series, which earned $134.7 million worldwide. Before that, the 42-year-old actor had only a few TV guest-starring roles to his name in shows like ER, CSI: Miami, and The Guardian.
Earlier this week, Entertainment Tonight caught up with Pine on the red carpet of Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves premiere in LA. The media outlet asked about his thoughts on Princess Diaries 3, and he revealed he would return if asked.
Pine said:
“Yeah, I’m here! I’m here for it. Give me give me a phone call or an email”
While on the red carpet, Pine also joked that if he were to reprise his role as Nicholas Devereaux, he would opt for a “low-profile hair helmet.”
Princess Diaries 3 is expected to pick up where the second installment left off. Princess Diaries 2 followed Mia as she dealt with the pressures of monarchy, including fending off an arranged marriage with Nicholas. The two ultimately fall in love and Mia ascended the throne as the new Queen of Genovia.
