Actors put in a lot of effort to maintain every small detail about their character when playing that character across multiple years. During an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Christina Ricci revealed that not being pregnant during Yellowjackets season 2 will see a small change to her survivor, Misty Quigley.
Being pregnant made Christina Ricci walk, or more like a “waddle,” as the disturbing and quirky character. When it came to filming the second season of the hit Showtime series, she realized she could not nail the walk, which it later dawned on her why. Fans picked up on her specific quirks, which the star noted as being “so specific,” and how fans will likely notice how she will walk differently.
“But, I was pregnant at the time. So my walk was because I had a baby inside of me. So when I went back to do season two I was like, ‘Why can’t I do the walk?’ And I was like, ‘Oh, damnit, I’m not pregnant anymore!’
Christina Ricci realized not being pregnant affects Yellowjackets season 2
The star has two children. She has an eight-year-old son, Freddie. In December 2021, she gave birth to her daughter, Cleopatra. The cannibal teen thriller premiered in November 2021.
The series jumps between the past (1996) and the present (2021). In the ’90s, it follows a teen girl soccer team on a flight to a national game, which goes wrong as they crash in the middle of the forest. The present follows the lives of the surviving women on how they try to move forward away from the horrible things they had to do to survive. Despite that effort, their past comes back to haunt them.
Christina Ricci being pregnant did not stop her from delivering a memorable performance in the show. Alongside the standout adult cast, who led the present scenes that take place in 2021, she was one of the cast members nominated for an Emmy. The series was nominated for seven Emmys, including her performance, Melanie Lynskey’s performance as adult Shauna, its writing for a drama series, and Outstanding Drama Series.
Yellowjackets season 2 will deliver the returning, surviving cast with newcomers like Lauren Ambrose, Simone Kessell, Elijah Wood, and more. It will premiere on March 26 at 6 p.m. PT/9 p.m. ET.
