Get your barf bags as Terrifier 3 is in development with some returning cast members from the previous film, Deadline reported. The third installment to the slasher will see the return of writer and director Damien Leone, producer Phil Falcone, David Howerton Thornton, who plays the series killer Art the Clown, and the second film’s lead, Lauren LaVera, as Sienna. This time around, as Terrifier 3 goes into development for filming to begin toward the end of the year, it will be getting a bigger budget. The first film cost $35,000, and the sequel cost $250,000.
Deadline reports that this one will be around the low to mid-seven-figure range. Upping the budget by a significant amount by adding some zeros is no surprise by the shocking hit that the second film became. That $250,000 budget led to a film that grossed $15 million worldwide. Through buzz, stories online about people fainting and vomiting, and the horror genre thriving during the COVID era led to the success story of Art the Clown’s second killing spree. It even was submitted for an Oscar, although the Academy passed on giving it a nod.
Terrifier 3 is in Development With Returning Director and Cast
Traditionally, horror has been under the overall market of the film industry. While its dedicated fans have sat in seats to create successful horror films, it has swapped places post-2019. Since theaters opened back up after COVID shut everything down, it has spiked to go above the market share. 2021 was up 12.83%, and 2022 was up 8.52%. 2022 saw big hits with Nope, The Black Phone, Scream, Barbarian, and Smile. This year, we have had huge hits with M3GAN, Scream 6, and Evil Dead Rise.
Terrifier 3 still has a long road to go while in development. While production will begin around November and December, fans will have to wait until late 2024 to see what kind of carnage Art the Clown will create for the third installment.
