Natalie Portman is open to reprising her role as Padme Amidala in the Star Wars universe. In an “Actually Me” interview for GQ, Portman answered a Reddit question about her potentially returning to the role of Padme. Portman responded, “I have no information on this. No one’s ever asked me to return, but I’m open to it.” Many fans have wondered why Portman hasn’t reprised the role of Padme when her Star Wars co-stars Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen have reprised their roles in Obi-Wan Kenobi. Such a return would be complicated since Padme died at the end of Revenge of the Sith. However, we have seen characters return as ghosts or somehow come back from the dead before (i.e. Darth Maul and Palpatine).
Could Natalie Portman Return to Star Wars as Padme Amidala
The idea of bringing Padme back from the dead isn’t a new idea in the Star Wars universe. In the movie Rogue One, we see Darth Vader in his castle on Mustafar. A Star Wars comic reveals that the castle was designed by the spirit of the Sith lord Darth Momin for the sake of resurrecting Padme. However, Momin betrayed Vader and used the castle to resurrect his own body. Vader was able to interact with Padme in the spiritual realm and tried to bring her back with him. However, she no longer recognized him and committed spiritual suicide.
It appears that the Star Wars lore has ended Padme’s storyline. And while many fans want to see Natalie Portman return as the character, what would that look like? She died believing there was still good in Anakin. She opts for spiritual death in the comics when she sees what he has become. Padme’s resurrection would likely be another sad story in Anakin Skywalker’s saga.
Nevertheless, many Star Wars fans are open to Padme’s return, and so is Natalie Portman. Do you want to see this storyline? Share your thoughts in the comments.
