The official Five Nights at Freddy’s trailer is out. The upcoming film is an adaptation of the beloved horror games of the same name. In the video games, the player tries to survive a night fighting off the possessed 3D mascots inhabiting Freddy Fazzbear’s Pizza. The full movie trailer revealed more details about Josh Hutchinson’s unlucky security guard as he struggles to live through his first shift.
Unpacking The New Five Nights at Freddy’s Trailer
Not too long after Blumhouse revealed the first teaser for the film, Universal released the aforementioned Five Nights at Freddy’s movie trailer. The trailer shows Josh Hutchinson, who plays a security guard named Mike Schmidt, battling for his life at his new job. The trailer started on a seemingly benign note, with Schmidt looking desperately for a job and finding one at Freddy Fazbear’s.
Schmidt comes to his first day of work with his 10-year-old sister, Abby, who is supposed to sleep through the night while her brother works. Things take a dangerous turn when Abby (played by Piper Rubio) meets the terrifying animatronics. They come to life and Mike has to fight for his life and save his sister. Elizabeth Lail plays a cop in the film, and her character explains some of the mystery surrounding the possessed animatronics.
How Is the Upcoming Movie Adaptation Similar to the Games?
The Five Nights at Freddy’s trailer offers a deeper look into the movie adaptation, which will hit theaters and Peacock on October 27. The trailer’s images reveal some of the significant changes to the iconic video game as well as the similarities that made it into the film. One of the major elements the film retained from the game is the designs of the monstrous animatronics, with Jim Henson’s Creature Shop adapting the game characters into real animatronic figures.
The Five Nights at Freddy’s trailer also shows that the film follows the game’s plot. The game’s story is that the animatronics were possessed by the souls of children murdered at the restaurant by founder William Afton. In the just-released trailer, Lail’s character explains that Freddy’s closed up in the ’80s when children went missing. The police searched the eatery, but they never found the children. However, their spirits possessed the animatronic mascots, evoking terror in the restaurant.
More on the Five Nights at Freddy’s Trailer
Lillard plays the main villain, William Afton, in the upcoming movie. The film will most likely touch on his involvement in the killing of the children. In the games, Spring Bonnie is William Afton’s primary persona for luring children. However, it is unclear if the character will appear possessed by Afton in the movie.
One big change in the new movie trailer is how crucial the restaurant’s power is to the survival of the animatronics. In the Five Nights at Freddy’s trailer, the possessed animatronics toy with the restaurant’s lights to haunt Schmidt. It will be interesting to see how this element will be used to heighten the tension of the horror adaptation.
The Blumhouse-produced film also stars Kat Conner Sterling and Mary Stuart Masterson. The film is directed by Emma Tammi and written by Scott Cawthon, creator of the games, Emma Tammi, and Seth Cuddeback.
