During a recent interview with Empire Online, series creator Tony Gilroy revealed that the upcoming second season of Star Wars Andor will end at the exact moment Rogue One begins. He has also revealed that the entire second season will consist of four three-episode blocks, with each block covering a three-day period. In between each of these three-episode blocks, Cassian Andor’s story will have one-year time jumps, which will obviously lead straight into Rogue One. Filming for Star Wars Andor Season 2 has already begun back in November last year and is expected to wrap sometime in August 2023. You can check out Tony Gilroy’s official statement below.
“What we’re doing now for the second season, to finish, is we have four years to cover. Because we break down in these three block chunks, each block of three will be a year; we’re going to jump a year. When we come back for the second season, we’ll come back and a year will have evaporated, and it’ll take place over a Friday, Saturday, and a Sunday. Then we’ll jump a year, and we’ll do the same thing again. We’ll do it four times. The last tranche will be the three days before Rogue One, and then we’ll walk you into the movie.”
What to Expect in Andor Season 2
Since the beginning, Tony Gilroy has always made it known that Andor will end at the precise moment viewers meet Cassian Andor in Rouge One. Currently, an official synopsis for the upcoming second season hasn’t been released yet, but it is expected that the plot will cover Cassian Andor’s journey as he grows into a spy that’ll do whatever it takes to fight for the Rebellion’s cause and take down the Empire. The majority of the cast is expected to return alongside Diego Luna, including Kyle Soller as Syril Karn, Adria Arjona as Bix Caleen, Stellan SkarsgÃ¥rd as Luthen Rael, Denise Gough as Dedra Meero, Genevieve O’Reilly as Mon Mothma, Faye Marsay as Vel Sartha, Varada Sethu as Cinta Kaz, and Elizabeth Dulau as Kleya Marki. The second season will have a total of 12 episodes, with Tony Gilroy writing the third episode himself.
With no official release date at this time, it has been announced during the recent Star Wars Celebration event that Andor season 2 will premiere sometime in August 2024.
