Lionsgate has treated us to a new poster for The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, the prequel to the Hunger Games series. The poster features the two titular creatures in what appears to be a fierce battle. The film will tell the story of the rise of Coriolanus Snow, the tyrannical president of Panem, in The Hunger Games trilogy. We will see him as an impoverished young man whose chance at good fortune arises when he is assigned to work in the 10th annual Hunger Games as a mentor to District 12 tribute Lucy gray Baird. Tom Blyth and Rachel Zegler portray Coriolanus Snow and Lucy Gray Baird, respectively. Vanity Fair released the Lionsgate image of the two stars in character in August 2022 and can be seen above.

Lionsgate Teases ‘The Hunger Games’ Prequel With New Poster
Lionsgate had major success with The Hunger Games series. Altogether the franchise grossed over $2.9 billion in the box office and home entertainment sales and rentals. It’s no surprise that they got the film rights before the novel the prequel movie is based on was published. With the teaser trailer, the image above, and the new poster, Lionsgate is getting Hunger Games fans excited to see how one of the most memorable movie villains of the 21st century so far came to power.
While President Snow came off as a blackhearted monster when Donald Sutherland portrayed him in the original movies, this story seems to shed light on what turned him into a monster. Forming a bond with the girl he is mentoring, he starts to question if he really believes in his part in the matter. And while we already know in advance that he will ultimately become a ruthless dictator with children’s blood on his hands, it will be interesting to see what brought him to that place. Also, the fact that the girl he is mentoring and connecting with hails from the same district as his future nemesis Katniss Everdeen is certainly going to be an important dynamic in the story.
Along with Tom Blyth and Rachel Zegler, the cast will include major stars such as Jason Schwartzman, Viola Davis, and Peter Dinklage. Davis will play the villainous game maker Dr. Volumnia Gaul, and as we know from her work as Amanda Waller, Davis can play a bad woman with no effort.
Lionsgate’s movie The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes will release on November 17, 2023.
