Traveling along space systems and visiting unique planets, you will meet dozens and hundreds of unique spaceships. Some ships will make excellent trading partners, and we advise you to use this in-game mechanic. But you can choose another path, becoming a pirate and attacking the ships for profit. Of course, you should carefully assess the enemy’s strength and stock up on supplies and Ship Parts to ensure victory. And don’t forget that you must be careful not to destroy enemy vehicles. So, we are here to help you and tell you how to dock and board enemy ships in Starfield.

First of all, it is worth noting that piracy in Starfield has negative consequences, and you should understand this before you decide to attack someone. On the other hand, if you are already in enmity with some faction, attacking them, you will not lose anything. However, if you are confident in your decision, here is what you should do to dock and board enemy ships in Starfield:

  • First, you must fight the enemy ship and destroy their Grav Drive.
  • Approach to the ship and dock.
  • Get inside, kill the entire crew, and collect your reward.

First, you should find a target to attack and ensure you can beat it. Of course, you will encounter a lot of ships near densely populated planets, but this is fraught with the rapid arrival of enemy ships and the potential deterioration of your reputation. So, if you are not confident that you can quickly destroy the Grav Drive, board enemy ships, and escape the crime scene, look for your target in more distant systems. The search will take some time, but this way, you guarantee your safety.

Once you have decided on the target, you should attack them. And as we said earlier, you have to destroy their Grav Drive. By doing this, you will destroy the enemy’s escape device and can safely dock to them. You can shoot for luck, but in this case, there is a risk that you will simply destroy the vehicle and can only search the remains of the enemy ship. Therefore, we advise you to unlock the Targeting System Skill. Using this ability, you can target the Grav Drive to ensure successful piracy.

Once you’ve destroyed an enemy’s escape device and immobilized their vehicle, the GRV icon will appear on it. Next, you only need to press E on PC or A on the controller to target the enemy ship and fly closer. Once you see the Board option on the screen, press R on the PC or Y on the controller to dock to an enemy ship and enter it.

Once inside, you only have to kill all the crew members and take the ship’s contents or the vehicle itself. Although you can find crew members anywhere, they often hide in the pilot area or crew quarters. Look around the ship to ensure you don’t miss anyone, and collect all the rewards in the cargo hold, captain’s hold, and on the shelves in different cabins. After that, you can steal the ship by landing or repairing it and doing a gravity jump. But you can also return to your ship by pressing the Undock button and destroy the crime scene. If you do everything quickly, you will not even ruin your reputation.
