One of the best indie games released in 2016 was Oxenfree, made and released by Night School Studio. The game was inspired by coming-of-age movies, and once it was released, it met critical acclaim and eventually was acquired by Netflix. Netflix started its gaming branch back in 2021 and partnered with some other studios. But the statistics show Netflix Games are not doing good. Now after 7 years, the sequel of Oxenfree is going to be released, and it might be the starting point of Netflix Gaming’s redemption. Oxenfree 2 will release in less than a month for all major platforms, and it will also be available on Netflix for free.
Oxenfree 2: Lost Signals Will Be Available for Free on Netflix
In the past couple of years, Netflix, one of the biggest streaming services in the world, acquired multiple video game studios. Among them was Night School Studio, known for making Oxenfree and was nominated for Best Narrative in The Game Awards 2016.
Oxenfree 2: Lost Signals is the sequel of the series that was supposed to release in 2022. However, after Netflix bought the studio, they decided to delay the game to 2023 to make it something special. The events of the sequel take place five years after Oxenfree. Players will follow Riley Poverly, an environmental researcher going back to his hometown to discover the radio frequency that is causing disturbance for all electronic tools in the area.
Oxenfree 2 is part of the 40 games Netflix promised to release this year on their platform, with 70 more being in development. Not only they acquired studios like Spry Fox and Boss Fight Entertainment, but they opened their own video game studio in Southern California as well. Oxenfree 2 will have one of the best-localized interfaces and subtitles with 31 languages available for players, including Arabic, Czech, Polish, Norwegian Bokmål, and Malay.
Oxenfree 2: Lost Signals is set to release for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, PC, Android, iOS, and Netflix on July 12. People with a Netflix subscription can play the game from the Games section of the Netflix app on their phones for free.
