The variety of genres and sizes should get everyone through the month. So, get ready for gory scares, sci-fi adventures, and mechs in the coming weeks.

Baldur’s Gate 3

  • Release Date: August 3, September 6 for PS5
  • Platform(s): PC and PS5

After being in early access, Baldur’s Gate 3 is releasing for PC players who have already been playing or awaiting its full release. PlayStation 5 will receive its launch a week later. Whether you are a newcomer or a longtime fan of Larian, the studio has become one of the best when it comes to making RPGs. Divinity: Original Sin 2 is one of the greatest RPG experiences ever made, so the developer has set a high bar for itself.

As Baldur’s Gate fans have awaited a sequel for years, the team behind the third main entry should make them happy. Larian knows how to deliver freedom in RPGs as you have access to an in-depth character creator and plentiful options in how to go about quests. This will be the ultimate RPG out of the anticipated games releasing in August and 2023 as a whole.

Atlas Fallen

  • Release Date: August 10
  • Platform(s): PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S

Developer DECK13 is going for its most ambitious game with Atlas Fallen. The studio’s first current-gen and PC-only game delivers a smaller, cheaper fantasy RPG experience. The timing of this new ARPG release is perfect for those who’ve finished their playthrough with Diablo 4.

In Atlas Fallen, you’ll use magic and sand infusion to take down epic-sized monsters. Leveling up will grant you better gear and new skills to curate the experience to your preferred playstyle. Although the world may look vast, traveling through it is quick. Likewise, combat is fluid and smooth, as you can maneuver around your foes to take them down with ease.

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre

  • Release Date: August 18
  • Platform(s): PC, PS4 and 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S

Since Friday the 13th game was hacked to death due to rights issues, Dead by Daylight seems to be the conquering horror game with icons from the genre crossing over. If you want a similar asymmetrical multiplayer experience and are a big horror fan, then The Texas Chain Saw Massacre will be for you.

It is far from Sumo Digital’s other games, like Sackboy: A Big Adventure. Focused on the original 1974 film, you get a chance to rewrite the film’s events as you and three other players (Victims) find whatever you can grab to help you survive and escape. Meanwhile—unlike Friday the 13th and Dead by Daylight with one killer—three people are on the other team as the Family, hunting down each of the Victims. This will easily dominate the horror space out of the anticipated games releasing in August 2023.

Immortals of Aveum

  • Release Date: August 22
  • Platform(s): PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S

Fast-paced shooters have had a long reach, from sci-fi like Doom to periods of war like Call of Duty. Immortal of Aveum delivers fast pacing and action as a fantasy FPS. Initially set to release in July, the delay moved the launch forward one month. From the trailers, it has a sense of humor similar to many recent blockbusters, like from the MCU and this year’s Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves.

Coming from the creative director of Call of Duty and Dead Space, Bret Robbins, this will be jam-packed with content to let you experiment with various playstyles. With 25 spells and 80 talents, you can make plenty of combinations as you blast your enemies to pieces. If you are tired of typical FPS franchises, Immortals of Aveum should be on top of your list of games releasing in August 2023.

Madden NFL 24

  • Release Date: August 24
  • Platform(s): PC, PS4 and 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Switch

The only thing more consistent in gaming than Call of Duty is a new sports game, like NFL and FIFA. NFL 24 pushes the envelope while being open for older consoles with availability for the previous-gen. The definition of players’ bodies and their physics, when they move, will be the most realistic in Madden NFL history due to SAPIEN Technology.

Accompany this with systems for smarter AI and how it feels to be a football player; this will be the most realistic game in the franchise. Minigames, new and old, including Superstar Showdown, will give you more things to do than play traditional matches against NPCs, friends, and other players online.

Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon

  • Release Date: August 25
  • Platform(s): PC, PS4 and 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S

FromSoftware was an obscure developer for decades. The studio was only known for Armored Core, which was never the most popular series. Today, the studio has risen to become one of the best due to steady growth from its Soulslikes and substantial hits like Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice and Elden Ring.

It is perfect timing to revive Armored Core with Fires of Rubicon with that refinement of skills from the people who have been with the company for years while hiring the best talent available. Plenty of people will now jump in their mechs for the first time to experience the series’ omnidirectional combat and movement. While it is no Soulslike, we can expect big boss battles and epic music, as heard from the trailers. Out of the top anticipated games releasing in August 2023, this will be one that people will talk about during The Game Awards.
