When a game exits Early Access to its full release, the people waiting or playing will have plenty of questions. For Baldur’s Gate 3, PC players wanting to play with a controller may wonder if it will support a gamepad. There are a couple of pieces to this puzzle to break down, so we will give you the details needed. Larian Studios has thought of everything, but have they covered controller support? Let’s clear the air on the subject before you hop in on August 3.
The Details on Baldur’s Gate 3 Controller Support on PC
When you have a PC game releasing on PS5 in September and will have Steam Deck support, you should expect controller support on PC for Baldur’s Gate 3. This was confirmed after a Reddit user messaged Larian on Instagram, to which the developer responded that it would arrive in the day one update for the game’s full release. This will be one of the many features added on launch that was not available in Early Access.
This does not come as a surprise that Larian Studios is embracing controllers for the PC release of its upcoming game. Beyond releasing its latest massive RPG on the PS5 and supporting the Steam Deck, its other expansive RPGs have been on consoles. You can play Divinity: Original Sin 2 on Switch and Steam Deck, so it is possible to get any game optimized for a console of its generation. The complexity of controls could make it challenging to play Baldur’s Gate 3 on a controller. Based on how Divinity: Original Sin 2 played on a controller, we have high hopes that this will be seamless if you go from keyboard and mouse to using your preferred controller.
Baldur’s Gate 3 will release on PC, including Steam Deck support, on August 3. It will release on PS5 on September 6. An Xbox release will arrive, which will come in 2024 without any specific date confirmed.
