Starfield‘s decisions are one of the most critical aspects of the game, which can change many details during the gameplay. So many moments in Starfield force you to choose between one or more options. While some options might not affect the overall story, others make massive, unchangeable differences. Here are the 5 most important decisions you should not make in Starfield.

Spoiler Alert! The following content might spoil important parts of the Starfield story.

Who Will Be Your Fiancé in Starfield?

Starfield lets you choose whom you want to share a life with. There are companions in the game, which are all available to have during missions. They help you fight, trade weapons, and have unique dialogue. This is a personal decision, and you can even do your business alone without choosing one.

However, picking a companion as your fiancé gives you new details toward the end of the story. This Starfield decision makes the difference of seeing your companion beside you during the game’s final moments. It sounds more like a romantic narrative, but worth the shot if you’re interested in love stories.

Protecting The Lodge or The Eye?

During the High Price To Pay mission, players make one of the most critical decisions in Starfield. After the Constellation group finds more artifacts, you, as a player, will receive a distress signal to return to your team. This will be a decision to go to New Atlantis and help your comrades defend the Lodge or travel to the Eye orbiting Jemison planet to help the others.

No matter the choice, one of Sam, Sarah, Barret, or Andreja will die on this mission. Two of these companions are on the Eye, while the others are at the Lodge. You’ll know who is where, and you can only defend two of them. If you go to the Lodge, one of the companions on the Eye will die. And if you go to the Eye, one companion dies in the Lodge during the mission.

The important detail for this decision in Starfield is that among the companions, the one that dies is the character you were the closest to. For instance, if you’re close to Sarah and choose not to go where she is, she’ll die. This decision changes details toward the end of Starfield‘s story.

Helping Pirates or Eliminate Them in Starfield?

During the UC SysDef questline, you’ll be tasked to infiltrate the Crimson Fleet, a group of space pirates. After working with the Crimson Fleet for a while, you’ll become friends with them. During the final act of this questline, however, you need to choose a side to stand with UC SysDef or the Fleet.

If you stand with the UC SysDef in this mission, you can eliminate the leaders of the Crimson Fleet, earn 250,000 credits, and go. This is one of the important Starfield decisions that’ll mark you as the enemy of the Crimson Fleet for the rest of your space journey.

Surprisingly, siding with the Crimson Fleet pirates will have more benefits and rewards. For example, after killing the UC SysDef crew, you will not be hunted by any of the UC SysDef soldiers later. You still get the 250,000 credits and will still get to keep using The Key!

Siding With The Hunter or The Emissary?

Aside from the moral aspects of this topic, siding with The Hunter or The Emissary is more of a looting option. If you take sides with The Hunter, you’ll gain a new quest called the Infinity’s End, rewarding you with a rare melee weapon. Siding with The Emissary, on the other hand, grants you the Starborn space suit with a rifle called the Eternity’s Gate.

Both choices have their own rewards and unique items. But you can still choose not to stand with any of them or skip the boss fight with a bit of persuasion. Regardless, you’ll still have the ending for your final Starfield decision.

Starborn or Not?

The Unity

In the final act of Starfield‘s story, you can either be reborn and start a new timeline or return to your own world. This is a tough choice, and it has some consequences. If you choose to be reborn into a new universe, all your gear and weapons will be gone. You’ll be left with nothing but your knowledge in the new timeline, which means you can answer the questions of the Constellation group members with all your data, making it a new option.

Walking through Unity and being reborn in Starfield means that you can start the New Game Plus. But if you refuse to do so, you can still return to your timeline and use your new weapons to dominate the side quests. It’s your call.
