Nearly three decades after the end of Full House, one-time co-stars John Stamos and Dave Coulier are closer than ever. Stamos, well-known for his role as Jesse Katsopolis on the classic sitcom, published an Instagram post in honor of Coulier’s 64th birthday yesterday. The tribute, backed by “You’re My Best Friend” by Queen, has Stamos recounting how he and Dave Coulier first met during the casting process for Full House, accompanied by a collection of photos of Coulier, Stamos, and their sitcom co-stars.
‘Full House’ Alum John Stamos Wishes Dave Coulier A Happy Birthday
It’s been 28 years since the last episode of Full House aired, but John Stamos is still recognizable for his role as Jesse Katsopolis, a San Francisco rock musician who helps raise his three nieces after their mother – Jesse’s sister – dies. The girl’s father, Danny Turner (Bob Saget), also recruits his childhood best friend, stand-up comedian Joey Gladstone, played by Dave Coulier.
Stamos and Coulier, who met during the casting process for the sitcom, would become thick as thieves. The pair remain as close as ever, evidenced by the heartfelt tribute John Stamos posted on Instagram to celebrate Dave Coulier’s 64th birthday yesterday. The post, which contains a video montage of the duo, begins with old footage of the Full House cast while Stamos narrates the story of how he and Coulier met in a meeting arranged by the sitcom’s creator, Jeff Franklin.
Franklin sets up a chemistry lunch with me and Dave Coulier, an up-and-coming comedian who was up for the role of Joey Gladstone. Dave waxes on a bit too seriously about comedy and specifically his comedy and how it sets him apart from other comedians.”

As Stamos narrates, the video continues, showing clips of him and Coulier together, both from their Full House era and more recent pictures. Stamos explains how his initial bad impressions of Coulier were dismissed the very next night after Franklin takes him to see Coulier perform, leaving Stamos impressed by what he calls “a brilliant performance”, complimenting his friend’s “Robin Williams sense of rapid-fire impressions.”
“I go backstage: ‘And why couldn’t you have done that at lunch and saved me a 45-minute car ride?’ He laughs, I hug him and tell him how talented he is. I can’t wait to work with him.”

John Stamos’ birthday tribute video concludes with a slideshow of pictures including himself and Coulier alongside many of their co-stars, including Bob Saget, who passed away last year. In the included caption, Stamos wishes Dave Coulier a happy birthday and states, “You are a gift in my life! Love you always.”
