Bad news for Spider-Verse fans. We’ll have to wait even longer for the sequel to drop. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was an iconic 2018 film that was our initial foray into the multiverse of Spider-people. We wouldn’t get anything in the MCU area until just recently. It also took some significant steps character-wise, introducing Miles Morales and Spider-Gwen. Fans have been eagerly awaiting the sequel’s arrival since its announcement. Over time, we even learned the sequel has two parts, a la the Infinity Saga. Unfortunately, it seems we won’t be hitting its original release date. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse was delayed to June 2023.
What Does This Spider-Verse Movie Entail?
Not much is known about the Spider-Verse sequel just yet. An official trailer was released a few months back. The trailer implies that the movie turns its previous plot point on its head. Miles travels to other universes instead of people traveling to his. The multiverse seems to be in danger once again, and Gwen Stacy needs Miles to help save it. The film will include the original washed-up Spider-Man, including Spider-Man 2099. It’s unclear what his role is in the movie. However, the trailer shows that he’s fighting Miles for some reason. We’ll find out more as it gets closer to release.
Sony Is Making Some Major Moves For Their Universe
The news about Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse being delayed to 2023 is sad indeed. However, it comes with a bright side. Part One was the only film with a release date between the trilogy. Now Sony Pictures has announced that Part Two is due for release in March 2024. It’s still a long way to wait for both. But with Spider-Verse movies such as Madame Web and Kraven the Hunter in the 2023 line-up, we have plenty to look forward to.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Part One is now set to release on June 2nd, 2023. Here’s hoping this web sticks.
