After Kingpin’s appearance in Hawkeye and Daredevil’s appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home, the MCU has and is finally acknowledging our fan-favorite characters from the Netflix shows. With shows being shockingly canceled all at once when Disney announced the launch of Disney+, many of us were left heartbroken, not knowing what would happen to our beloved characters and their stories.
Charlie Cox’s Daredevil set the tone and standard for the gritty-street crime-fighting we’d soon see in shows like Iron Fist, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and The Punisher. Later all those characters—except Frank Castle—meet up with one another in The Defenders. All these shows will be leaving Netflix and going to Disney+ in some regions.
When Daredevil premiered in 2015, it was a refreshing change from Marvel’s other content, giving the universe a real sense of humanity and overall hardcore realness. Not only did the show have fast-paced storytelling with great writing, but it finally did Daredevil justice after the big screen disappointment of the 2003 movie. Charlie only appears in one Spider-Man: No Way Home scene, but the brief cameo of him opens up a whole new door and hope to Daredevil stepping into more MCU-related content. Possibly even the return of the beloved shows if we’re lucky. Many fans will agree that Wilson Fisk and Matt Murdock’s cameos are like Easter eggs confirming the return and existence in the universe. There have been rumors that Daredevil might return in Disney+’s upcoming Echo series.
How does the Daredevil Movie from 2003 get a special Easter Egg?
Not knowing if it was intentional or not, there’s a small connection between Daredevil’s surprise cameo in No Way Home and the 2003 sole Daredevil movie. In No Way Home, Jon Favreau plays Happy Hogan, the Head of Security of Stark industries and one of Tony Stark’s most trusted friends, now being like a father-figure to Peter Parker and being the on-and-off love interest of Aunt May’s. In 2003’s Daredevil, he played Foggy Nelson—Matt Murdock’s law partner and best friend.
After Favreau’s game-changing role in 2008 Iron Man, Favreau established the Marvel Cinematic Universe. If Favreau hadn’t taken the risk and been successful with Iron Man, No Way Home wouldn’t exist today. Favreau hasn’t directed a Marvel movie since Iron Man 2; during that time, he’s spent the last few years focused on building the Mandalorian-verse on Disney+, but he has remained in the MCU stably has his recurring role, Happy Hogan.
Now we are all wondering if after the mind-blowing Daredevil cameo in No Way Home about Happy needing “a good lawyer,” if this will be something a bit later on in the Cinematic Universe. Maybe even if Matt isn’t available to present Happy, maybe Elden Henson’s Foggy Nelson could take the case instead; what a fun sight that would be! Until more news, here’s an article talking about Charlie Cox returning as Daredevil.
