Here’s What The Trailers Tells Us About Judd Apatow’s Documentary

George Carlin’s American Dream offers an in-depth look into George Carlin’s personal archives, including photos of him growing up in NYC. The documentary also dives into Carlin’s extensive career as a stand-up comedian, which lasted nearly six decades.

HBO’s debut trailer shows clips of Carlin’s greatest TV stand-up specials, including archived clips of TV talk show appearances from the 1960s. We’re also shown rare footage of Carlin at home with his family, including intimate family photos of his ex-wife Brenda Carlin and their daughter Kelly Carlin who recently shared her enthusiasm for the trailer on Twitter:

OMG OMG OMG!

Buckle up folks! 18 days to premiere.

In addition to clips of conversations with close friends and family members, the trailer gives us sound bites of some of the celebrity interviews you can expect to see in American Dream, which include comedic icons like Chris Rock, Jerry Seinfeld, and Bette Middler, who were all inspired by Carlin’s controversial career.

George Carlin Was A Comedy Legend

Carlin is considered a legend in comedy and was known for his cynical, brutally honest delivery, which landed him dozens of acting roles, over a dozen HBO comedy specials (14 to be exact), and at least 130 appearances on The Tonight Show. Comedians like Stephen Colbert looked up to Carlin and considered him the comedy equivalent of a rockstar.

Carlin was known for constantly growing and adapting in his craft, seeming to evolve and keep up with the tide regardless of age and decade; HBO refers to him as a “cultural chameleon.”

His bits were known to be profane and controversial, addressing topics like religion, politics, and current events, which, at times, landed him in trouble with the law. His raw, unfiltered delivery touched the hearts of millions and inspired comedians like Jon Stewart.

You can catch the first half of George Carlin’s two-part documentary when it premieres on HBO on May 20th. Be sure to subscribe to The Nerd Stash for more news about new trailers and movie premieres.
