Steph Curry NBA2K16

For those who watch the NBA, or honestly sports in general, you know Steph Curry is… how do the kids say it nowadays? Sick! His skills are undeniable, and many pros, league alumni and analysts are placing him above Lebron James as the top hardcourt talent in the league.

Now it appears that the developers of the NBA 2K series are not only amazed by Steph Curry’s talent like the rest of us but are having some difficulty emulating him in their game. For an idea of just how unbelievable this guy is, take a look at the video below. While this might not be an NBA website, it’s tough to ignore these skills:

In an interview with Forbes, Mike Wang, gameplay director of NBA 2K, says that keeping up with Curry in-game is tough:

To be completely honest, we are still looking for ways to better translate his game into NBA 2K,” says Wang. “He’s a ‘rule breaker’ when it comes to jump shooting … he becomes a problem in the video game world where we’ve been trying to train our gamers [to know] that certain types of shots should be rewarded versus others.

Wang refers to the player’s tactics and technique on the digital court as “rule breaking.” He’s talking about the stop, stutter, back-step move that is somewhat discouraged in the NBA game series. The reason, it fools the AI too easily, and the successful shot percentage in the games are far too high from what they “should be.” Although for Steph Curry, that’s one of his amazing abilities on a real hardcourt. Curry is not only famous for his overall skill but is an amazing 3-point shooter, using a technique just like this game after game (see above).

The goal of any simulation sports game is to be as real as possible, but for 2K, they can’t keep up with his numbers in real life. According to ESPN, Steph Curry is shooting 29.8 points per game this season and is on pace to hit 36 30-point games. In comparison, digital Steph is hitting 28.8 points per game and averaged 23 30-point games in 50 simulated seasons of NBA 2K16.

It’s amazing to watch this guy’s talent night after night, but now the 2K team has their hands full with Steph Curry. Only time will tell how super-human he’ll continue to be in future iterations.
