Twitch streamers are expressing their opinions about the new sponsorship program introduced by Twitch. Although the platform is still being tested, fans are already unimpressed by it. Twitch streamers aren’t happy with the new Twitch sponsorship system.
Twitch’s New Sponsorship System Heavily Criticized
In recent years, Twitch has experienced a spike in popularity, becoming the most widely-used live-streaming platform worldwide, with a large user base. However, the platform has faced numerous issues, such as controversial policies and practices, disputes over revenue sharing, and unfair treatment towards certain creators, making it a hot topic in the gaming community.
On April 4th, Twitch revealed that it was experimenting with a new sponsorship system that would enable sponsors to fund streams through gifted subscriptions. This new attribute has the potential to generate new revenue streams for streamers and give sponsors a more straightforward approach to financially supporting their preferred creators.
Nevertheless, many streamers are hesitant about this modification, fearing that Twitch may receive a portion of these “gifted subscriptions.” This new sponsorship system has sparked a strong reaction from popular streamers who are worried about it.
A streamer, Pestily known for playing Escape from Tarkov, criticized Twitch for trying to take a percentage of sponsored content. PaladinAmber wants to handle her sponsorship and income herself, while Bearki asked Twitch to “stop taking half of his earnings.”
It is concluded from the severe reactions from streamers that Twitch’s new sponsorship program, even though in the testing phase, may not be the right direction to take. Perhaps, instead, they should implement a program where hardworking streamers get paid fairly compensated.
This whole fiasco also highlights the importance of transparent communication and collaboration between content creators and streaming platforms.
