Peacock’s Twisted Metal dropped its first teaser trailer featuring Sweet Tooth and John Doe. A new clip of the upcoming series was unveiled during Summer Game Fest. It showed Sweet Tooth (voiced by Will Arnett, played in person by Samoa Joe) engaging in a casino brawl with John Doe (played by Anthony Mackie). Before, however, they take a break to sing along to Sisqó’s “Thong Song” enthusiastically.
In this 10-episode series, viewers will follow Mackie’s character as he receives an opportunity for a brighter future. To secure this chance, he must navigate a post-apocalyptic wasteland and transport a mysterious package. Among the adversaries they face is a crazed clown who navigates an eerily familiar ice cream truck.
In the game, Sweet Tooth is an ice cream truck that chases the player. Driven by the clown-themed killer, Needles Kane, Sweet Tooth has appeared in every game in the series to date. Sweet Tooth is often mistaken to be the name of the driver and the vehicle itself. Based on the trailer, it is unknown at the time if Peacock’s Twisted Metal will follow this too.
One of the vehicle’s most striking features is the decoration atop its roof: a macabre clown head seemingly in the likeness of Needles himself. Depending on the incarnation, it mimics its driver’s flaming scalp with fiery orange hair or actual flames. In some versions of Twisted Metal, the clown head is also the source of Needles’ signature Napalm Cone weapon, a massive burning projectile that can home in on enemy vehicles.
Twisted Metal’s Upcoming Show: Who is John Doe?
Once part of a gang comprised of anonymous criminals who relied on violence and theft, John Doe yearned for recognition. To achieve notoriety, the gang devised a sinister plan: they would detonate a powerful bomb at the Midtown Center for Disease Control, potentially unleashing a wave of diseases worldwide. However, fate intervened when an incident caused John to lose his memory. Subsequently, he was admitted to Blackfield Asylum, where he and the doctors struggled to uncover his true identity.
Amidst the confusion, John receives an unexpected visitor named Calypso, who presents him with an intriguing proposition. Calypso promises to reveal John’s true identity if he participates in a contest orchestrated by him. In a compelling moment, Calypso shows John a photograph depicting himself dressed in a distinguished suit, hinting at a life of significance. Driven by a burning desire to discover his true self, John enters the contest, refusing to spend the rest of his existence as an unknown entity.
In the Twisted Metal series, John Doe assumes the role of the driver named Roadkill in both Twisted Metal: Black and Twisted Metal: Lost.
