After years of developing TV series in the Star Wars universe, Dave Filoni will direct his own movie in the franchise, Lucasfilm announced during its Star Wars Celebration Showcase (seen below). From a blog post from the company, the story will stick close to the New Republic, making it a tie-in toward his corner with his Disney Plus shows like Ahsoka, The Book of Boba Fett, and The Mandalorian.
Today is a big day for Star Wars fans, whether you love the work Dave Filoni has done or others. A Rey movie has been announced, with Daisy Ridley returning for a post-The Rise of Skywalker adventure that will be helmed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy (Ms. Marvel). James Mangold (Logan) will direct a film that will take place 25,000 years in the past, setting it the farthest back in the current timeline. It will focus on the beginning of the Jedi.

It has been a long time coming for the producer. He has worked on the franchise since shows like The Clone Wars and Rebels. He has also worked heavily on The Mandalorian, Ahsoka, Tales of the Jedi, and Resistance. He also worked on the upcoming Skeleton Crew. He was set to work on Rangers of the New Republic, but that was scrapped from the plans Lucasfilm had for the franchise.
Dave Filoni, Mangold, and Obaid-Chinoy working on Star Wars movies put people’s minds at ease after canceled projects and disappointing releases after the divisive sequel trilogy and poorly performing Solo. Some of the recently canceled projects include one from Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige and Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins. It shifted the movie side of the property into shaky territory, which has now been corrected, as long as nothing else gets the ax.
