The introduction of the Kameos is an innovation in Mortal Kombat 1. These fighters don’t take part as the main characters in MK1, but they assist you during combat. This new edition has separated Mortal Kombat 1‘s gameplay from the previous main MK titles, making fights more dynamic by adding new combos and gimmicks. However, each Kameo has its own set of moves, matching unique playstyles and different main characters that you pick beside them. More importantly, some Kameos are stronger than others in terms of dealing damage, and ease of use. Here’s the ranking of the best Mortal Kombat 1 Kameos and their tier list.
Ranking Kameos in Mortal Kombat 1
Here we divide the Kameos that are currently in Mortal Kombat 1 at launch by three different groups. These three tiers show which Kameo characters are stronger to use, and which ones you should avoid starting with.
S-Tier Kameos
- Darius
- Sub-Zero
- Kung Lao
- Frost
- Kano
Looking for the best Kameos in Mortal Kombat 1? There they are! These fighters are the absolute best to choose if you want to deal the most damage and combine forces to extend combos. First of all, we have Darius; the returning character from Mortal Kombat: Armageddon. This Kameo fighter can do three types of attack, each better than the other for breaking the enemy’s guard and adding more moves to your combos.
Next on the list is Sub-Zero, whom you can get an arctic armor from. This Kameo can freeze your opponent at close range, which is very useful if you combine it with your basic combos of the main character. However, if there’s a Kameo better than Sub-Zero, it has to be Frost. You can extend many combos by her charge attack, and most importantly, you don’t need to be at close range to freeze your opponent with Frost.
And for the last two characters in the best Kameos in Mortal Kombat 1 list, we’ve got Kano and Kung Lao. Most of the characters in MK1 don’t have the teleportation ability, and that’s where Kung Lao shines! Pick this Kameo, and teleport behind your opponent to extend combos or perform a surprise attack. However, if you’re the type of player that keeps the opponent in the air for more extended combos, consider playing with Kano once. His throwing knives are always handy for purring salt on the enemy’s wounds, and you can keep Kano ready as a canon ball to be thrown when you want him to.
A-Tier Kameos
- Sareena
- Scorpion
- Sektor
- Cyrax
- Stryker
- Sonya Blade
The A-Tier Kameos are not as great as the S-Tier ones in Mortal Kombat 1. However, if used correctly, you can still manage to deal a ton of damage with them. First on the list is Sareena, whose best ability is to throw two sickles that hit your opponent twice! Next, is Hanzo Hasashi, AKA Scorpion. Hanzo is on fire in this game, and you can use him to set opponents on fire or get away from them.
Sektor is the next fighter here and he’s one of the best Kameos in Mortal Kombat 1 for sure. The reason is that he can burn and stun your opponent, and teleport behind him to perform a uppercut. Cyrax on the other hand, has a cyber net to trap your opponent, but it’s not the best for combining combos.
Want the best combo combinator Kameo in Mortal Kombat 1? Meet Stryker! This character can tie your opponent’s hands, do overhead attacks for breaking defenses, low attacks, and throw grenades to keep the poor target in the air for more combos. But do you remember the special move of Sonya Blade in the good old Mortal Kombat games? It’s here in MK1!
The leg grab special move by Sonya Blade Kameo in Mortal Kombat 1 is one of the best combo starters. Not only does it grab the opponent, but it’ll throw them mid-air, defenseless and ready for a combo.
B-Tier Kameos
- Goro
- Shujinko
- Jax
- Motaro
Surprisingly enough, Goro is not a top-tier character in MK1. In fact, his attacks are good and effective, but they’re not the best for the combinations of the main characters’ move sets. After Goro, Shujinko is one of the most fun Kameo fighters to play with. However, you can not use this character for combination moves and have the best attacks. What Shujinko does, is that he steals two of your opponent’s special moves!
And Jax and Motaro, they’re just not well rounded to be among the best Kameos in Mortal Kombat 1. The reason is, that they don’t have any efficient move sets like the other characters, and they have the least impact on the main characters’ combos. For example, Jax can slam the ground, which is a simple move and it can even hit you as the main character.
Mortal Kombat 1 is currently available to play on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
