Platinum Games is known for its flashy hack-and-slash combat games, and a large part of the company’s identity is owed to Hideki Kamiya. Having been the director for major franchises like the Bayonetta series and The Wonderful 101, he has paved the way that the industry has been following ever since, especially with the recent Final Fantasy 16. Hideki Kamiya tweeted recently that he is leaving Platinum Games this year, and does so with a heavy heart. Platinum Games’ official Twitter Account also followed up and echoed Kamiya’s sentiments.

Hideki Kamiya Leaving Platinum Games, But Not Game Development

He will officially be departing Platinum Games on October 12, but is not going to stop making games anytime soon.

According to Platinum Games, Kamiya played a pivotal role in making the studio what it is today. And wished success for him in all his future endeavors. Kamiya said that he believes this is for the best for his future, and teased fans to keep their eyes peeled for his future projects. Hideo Kojima did something similar when he left Konami, although that was not on such good terms, him starting his own studio and making a memorable original game like Death Stranding is a great outcome.

Kamiya was not just a developer, as he created the company with Shinji Mikami, Tatsuya Minami, and Atsushi Inaba. Back then Platinum Games was known as Seeds Inc. Kamiya has worked in the company for 16 years, and, before announcing his departure, was the vice president. His past works include recognizable titles like Resident Evil, Devil May Cry, and more. He is an industry veteran and will hopefully go on to make more memorable games in the future.

Until the date of his departure, Kamiya is still working as the VP and as the director of Project G.G. The project is another superhero game, but Kamiya will likely leave the company well before its release arrives.
