Finally, after multiple delays for various reasons, The Flash is hitting theaters this Friday. With the early screening suggesting that the movie is well-made and trailers increasing the hype with multiple Batmans and two Barry Allens, DC fans cannot wait to watch this anticipated movie. If you are the type of fan with sharp eyes, you have probably noticed the lightning color of each version of Flash in the film is different. So, in this article, we’ll break down the meaning of each hero’s lightning color in The Flash.
The Meaning of the Lightning Colors in The Flash
One of the best stories told revolving around Barry Allen, the fastest man alive, is Flashpoint. The only thing consistent in each version of the narrative is that drastic changes are made to the timeline. These range from Batman’s storyline changing to Barry’s mother being alive. In the upcoming movie The Flash, we are going to see yet another version of this plot.
The reason this paradox takes place is that Barry Allen decides to go back in time and change the course of events. He decides to go back in time and save his mother from being killed. This, therefore, causes gigantic changes to the timeline. In order to fix his mistake, the new timeline’s Flash helps the other Flash to fix the situation. And this is where fans noticed that they have different lighting colors.
This is not just for aesthetics. The color of each hero’s lightning has a meaning. Throughout the comic books, as well, every speedster, whether it’s Zoom, Godspeed, or Reverse-Flash has different lightning colors. In order to understand the meaning behind these colors, we need to learn a little bit of science, more precisely about the visible light spectrum.
The definition of the visible light spectrum according to Nasa is “the segment of the electromagnetic spectrum that the human eye can view.” In order to see those colors and a simple white light spectrum, you have to move the light through a pyramid that breaks it into seven colors: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet. Without getting into details of this subject, just know that red is on the right side of the spectrum and violet is on the left side.
Now that we know the necessary things about the visible light spectrum, let’s take a look at different speedsters in the DC comics. For the majority of the time, Barry leaves a bolt of yellow lightning which is in the middle of the spectrum. On the other hand, Kid Flash’s lightning is red which makes him slower than Barry. Wally, on the hand, has blue lightning which is much faster. Godspeed, on the other hand, leaves a white trace which is everything that comes after violet in the spectrum.
