Having the right gear and stats is vital in Diablo 4. You’ll face down numerous enemies from the beginning, so you’ll want to learn how to cause the most damage possible. You can do so once you gain Overpower Damage. It isn’t something you can just turn on, however. If you’re unsure about it, we’ll explain how you can activate Overpower Damage in Diablo 4.

How to Activate Overpower Damage in Diablo IV

There are various types of damage you can cause in Diablo 4. If you’ve played games like these before, then you may already be aware of Critical Damage. However, Overpower Damage is something different. When you activate Overpower Damage in Diablo 4, you increase the bonus damage with one attack against enemies.

With Overpower Damage, you will deal extra damage no matter what skill you’re using. However, passive abilities, Channeled skills, and damage over time are not impacted by Overpower.

In Diablo 4, once you activate it, Overpower Damage will scale with Fortify and Life stats. It caps out at 150% with a base starting point of 50%.

As you can see, Overpower Damage can come in handy in any battle, especially a tough one. While you battle, you may have noticed numbers showing on the screen in various colors. These detail what type of damage you currently deal out. For Overpower Damage, you notice blue-green numbers.

You can combine Overpower and Critical Damage, a result shown in orange numbers.

Now that we know what Overpower Damage does, it’s time to activate it. Unfortunately, you cannot press a button to activate it. Overpower Damage has an activation rate of 3%. It’s not clear if this will permanently be in the game or if this is just for the beta version.

So, to activate it, the only real thing you can do is just keep fighting seeing how random it is. You can always check under different classes to see if any stat upgrades specifically interact with Overpower. Some may even guarantee that Overpower Damage will activate in Diablo 4. This way, you can create a potent build to maximize damage as much as possible.

Diablo IV releases June 6, 2023 on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox consoles. Currently, you can play the free open beta version of the game.
